It's me again - lazyfecker Grin

Just wanted some ideas from you if I may! These are my issues:

Swiffer - too expensive.

Old-fashioned mop - can't wring them out and they smell before they dry.

Microfibre cloth mops - don't want to put washing machine on for a cloth! Can't wash them with anything else. Would need to disinfect machine after (expensive to do regularly).

Steam mops - see microfibre mops.

Sponge squeezy mops - had one about 30 years ago - pretty good but how to dry? I no longer have a utility room.

At the moment I leave it as long as possible and do it on my hands and knees with a sponge.

Why would you need to disinfect your washing machine after cleaning the cloths from a steam cleaner!? We just put them in a laundry bag and they go in with everything else.

This!

Steam mop here. Goes in the wash with everything else. Job done.

I suppose the steam cleaner cloths would not be as bad as microfibre as the steam will have killed the germs?

I can't imagine washing floor cloths with tea towels or even clothes. We are a shoes-on house (with pets) I only wash at 40 degrees...

Steam mop and also just put it in a regular wash. Also use microfibre cloths and cheeky wipes for the children’s hands and faces, and they all just go in a normal wash.

SparklyOwl · 28/10/2020 18:19

You can get Dettol laundry cleanser that kills almost all viruses at a low temperature.

That's an idea thanks. I had some Tesco's own before for dog bed.

E-cloth mop. Magic.

Still1nLove · 28/10/2020 18:21

I use good old fashioned mop. Change the head regularly. Fingers crossed fir a robo vacuum for Christmas 🤞

Treaclepie19 · 28/10/2020 18:23

Interested to see the responses. I use an old fashioned mop but fed up of it.
I like the look of the flash speed mop but won't get one because I prefer less chemicals and its a waste really isn't it.

lazyfecker · 28/10/2020 18:23

There were some on my bin thread saying it was grim to wash bin in bath so I wasn't sure I could wash floor clothes in machine with other washing.

Flash speed mop!
The sheets are recyclable and its sooo easy, plus the fresh smell lasts ages.

I like that sort of thing myself and I did have a Swiffer but found it got very expensive! Especially as I want to clean more than I have been doing but I also need to go on an economy drive 🤪

@Still1nLove your post made me really sad! I hope a robot vacuum is something bought for the house, not something as a gift for you!

Treaclepie19 · 28/10/2020 18:26

@lazyfecker this is mumsnet. The rules are odd 😂
I have OCD (diagnosed) so I have to ignore it all or I spiral.

Thats good to know about the flash speed mop wipes. Not sure I'll manage to use them still because of the chemicals 😩

TenThousandSpoons · 28/10/2020 18:26

I have the microfibre cloth mop. Usually wash them with towels but other things too sometimes. But hands and knees scrubbing with the cloths is much better than the mop.

Cabinfever10 · 28/10/2020 18:27

If you use the new vilida mop bucket with the foot pedal thingy it really does dry your mop so it doesn't take ages to dry or stink

lazyfecker · 28/10/2020 18:28

I am happy with chemicals myself as long as they are not sprayed because of my lungs...but now I have pets I am more wary of chemicals than I was before Especially on the floor

Yerroblemom1923 · 28/10/2020 18:29

I sweep the floor, hover the floor (for the bits the brush misses) and then just mop it. I squeeze the mop out v well though so it doesn't take yonks to dry between uses.

That is interesting! Will investigate that as it would be nice to be able to squeeze it out really hard. I do not really have anywhere to leave it to dry though unless I leave it out in the kitchen

A Vileda Turbo Mop. Microfibre head, and the bucket has a foot operated spinny thing that dries the mop head. A drop or two of disinfectant in the water stops the mop smelling between washes in the washing machine. Only £20, and you can buy spare heads for £8 or so. www.dunelm.com/product/vileda-turbo-smart-spin-mop-1000140941?defaultSkuId=30634173&branchCode=0520&gclid=Cj0KCQjwreT8BRDTARIsAJLI0KKRFvHEz8e66oLPLqxTfJ-z8xmqwSv-NsiqD3ceojJhl5DWTHlNujgaAvQ0EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

TheGreatWave · 28/10/2020 18:31

Vileda 1-2-spray, wash cloth with my towels. We do have amtico flooring though (here when we moved in, along with the blue flowery border tiles in the bathroom) so I try to be careful.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 28/10/2020 18:31

Hoover and then mop with a spray mop. Occasionally steam mop it. The cloths from the mop go in the machine with whatever is in there. It comes out clean Hmm

CuteOrangeElephant · 28/10/2020 18:32

I do a cloths and (tea) towels wash every Saturday after the bathroom gets cleaned, long cycle on 60 degrees. Works for us.
