It's me again - lazyfecker Grin

Just wanted some ideas from you if I may! These are my issues:

Swiffer - too expensive.

Old-fashioned mop - can't wring them out and they smell before they dry.

Microfibre cloth mops - don't want to put washing machine on for a cloth! Can't wash them with anything else. Would need to disinfect machine after (expensive to do regularly).

Steam mops - see microfibre mops.

Sponge squeezy mops - had one about 30 years ago - pretty good but how to dry? I no longer have a utility room.

At the moment I leave it as long as possible and do it on my hands and knees with a sponge.

Why on earth can't you wring out a mop? Get a proper mop bucket and mop. Put very hot water, some Flash (or similar) and a dab of bleach in the bucket. Wash floors, rinse and wring out mop, leave to dry. Whats the problem? I honestly think you are over thinking this!

CMOTDibbler · 28/10/2020 18:34

I have the spinny mop, and not only does it dry quickly, you extract enough water from the mop each time that the floor isn't very wet, but you still have the option to leave it wetter for a stubborn area

twobrews · 28/10/2020 18:37

I've got a Flash spray mop which is fine for spot cleaning but leaves the whole floor smeary and also nowhere in my town sells the pads for it.
My steam mop doesn't seem to work as well on the new tiles either, it was fantastic on our previous ones.
I've been using a traditional mop but as you say, they smell after a while.

nodogz · 28/10/2020 18:38

Robot mop. Inherited a shiny, white tiled floor in our kitchen when we bought the house.

Robomop goes off after tea every few days after a quick sweep or vacuum. I might clean the floor properly on hands and knees once it twice a year.

I've got dog, cat and kid tracking in mud everyday and it keeps everything looking good. I'd never go back.

LakieLady · 28/10/2020 18:39

I hoover it first then use a microfibre mop. I give the floor a light spray with diluted Flash-type cleaner, then run the mop over it.

For really grotty bits, mostly where the dog insists on removing bits of her dinner from her bowl and eating them off the floor, I have an old green scourer and give that bit a scrub.

I stick the mophead in the machine with all the other cleaning cloths. None of us have died as a result of wearing clothes that have gone in the machine after the mophead and other grubby stuff!

Svelteinmydreams · 28/10/2020 18:41

Vileda flat mop with method floor cleaner. The mop head goes in the wash with other cleaning cloths, dusters, etc at 60. Really quick and easy.

marthastew · 28/10/2020 18:43

Yes yes the Vileda spinny mop. It's fantastic!

Fizzysours · 28/10/2020 18:44

You CAN wash a steam mop pad in the machine with other stuff!! Put a capful of washing machine diainfectant with your load. I do this with every load now. Wash on 40 as good for the environment and even whiffy sports gear comes out fresh.

notangelinajolie · 28/10/2020 18:44

Hands and knees with a microfibre cloth. I have tried just about every mop out there but non of them proper get into the corners.

DuzzyFuck · 28/10/2020 18:46

I've got one of those with a reservoir on the handle that you fill with hot water / disinfectant and spray in front of you as you go. The fabric soaky-uppy bit needs washing but I just whack them in with bedding / towels / tea towels other unimportant stuff I do on a hot temperature as I don't think there's anything lurking on my kitchen floor that's any worse than any other grime in the house (we're in a flat so no direct access from the outdoors into the kitchen).

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/10/2020 18:46

E cloth mop; I put all the cleaning cloths in a little bin and wash together every week or two on a hot wash to double up as a service wash.

Venicelover · 28/10/2020 18:57

I hadn't heard of a robomop. Do they really work?

BoyTree · 28/10/2020 18:59

Robot hoover goes on to sweep, then robot Hoover mop attachment finishes it off. It never gets that dirty because it's so easy to do, so once you get used to putting it on the floor is always clean! It's a small microfibre pad that you can either wash by hand or stick in the wash.

@Still1nLove my husband and I bought the robot hoover/mop for ourselves for last Christmas and it's a complete game changer! I'm still super excited every time I put it on because I know it's doing a better and more regular job than I ever would. We have even jacked up our sofa so the Hoover can get underneath and no longer have the horror when a toy disappears and you know it's going to come out covered in fluff and hair!!

whoareyouIwonder · 28/10/2020 18:59

The Vax hoover/mop 2in1

Fantastic purchase

ProperVexed · 28/10/2020 19:02

Oh my Christ! I've heard of robo vacuum cleaners... but a robot mop! This could be life changing. @nodogz which make do you have?

vanillandhoney · 28/10/2020 19:03

I sweep and then use Steam-mop with a detergent compartment. I use Method floor cleaner in there, and then the microfibre attachment just goes in the wash when I do a load of towels. They all get washed at sixty.

BourbonBiscuits20 · 28/10/2020 19:05

Does anyone else have the bissell crosswave? Wondering if it's worth it I've been considering one...
I do use a spray mop and as PP have said I was cloths and dish towels on a 60 once a week (or try to do it once a week!). I don't think it's a very deep clean but also can't be bothered with traditional mop or hands and knees scrub

fucknuckle · 28/10/2020 19:19

i just got myself the Flash speed mop. i have no storage space for mop-and-bucket and bollocks am i getting on my hands and knees to wash a floor.

i like it. my kitchen and bathroom are only tiny so it takes me 5 minutes to do both and i can collapse the mop after and stash it in a corner.

recommended. (diagnosed OCD here, it didn’t give me the horrors touching the wipes which i was worried about)

Treaclepie19 · 28/10/2020 19:22

@fucknuckle can I ask is your OCD about the dirt or the chemicals? I'd love a flash speedmop but scared stiff about the chemicals causing harm somehow.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 28/10/2020 19:26

I sweep, then either steam mop or wash the floor by hand with floor cloths, hot water and Flash. Steam mop cover goes in a hot wash with all my other cleaning cloths. We are a shoes off house with no pets (or children!) so the hard floors are never very dirty.

ancientgran · 28/10/2020 19:31

I do it on hands and knees with a nice bucket of clean, warm soapy water and then do it again with plain warm water. I've never found anything that does it as well but I'm getting to the age where my knees are objecting. I'll know I'm past it when I can't do it. Having said that I lost the will to live for a while in lock down and then restrictions so it hasn't been done as often as usual. I did it today and realise how much a nice clean floor matters.

MsSquiz · 28/10/2020 19:37

When I do it, I use the Vileda spray mop with method floor cleaner

I think the cleaner has a vileda flat mop, but no idea what product she uses with it.

MrsRenard · 28/10/2020 19:37

Hoover then steam mop for thorough clean once a week.
In between, damp cloth under each foot and skate around, zapping grubby spots :)

Searchesforhipbones · 28/10/2020 19:38

Also here for the robot mop/vacuum combo recommendation!

Maireas · 28/10/2020 19:39

Well hello again, (not so) lazyfecker!
I was going to say on my knees with a toothbrush and Zoflora (gotta love mumsnet!), but I have to say the vileda mop is the way forward. Have no angst about "chemicals" btw, you're unlikely to create biohazard with general cleaning supplies from Tesco or whatever. Caveat - before I get pummelled, if you are sensitive, use bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice.
