It's me again - lazyfecker Grin

Just wanted some ideas from you if I may! These are my issues:

Swiffer - too expensive.

Old-fashioned mop - can't wring them out and they smell before they dry.

Microfibre cloth mops - don't want to put washing machine on for a cloth! Can't wash them with anything else. Would need to disinfect machine after (expensive to do regularly).

Steam mops - see microfibre mops.

Sponge squeezy mops - had one about 30 years ago - pretty good but how to dry? I no longer have a utility room.

At the moment I leave it as long as possible and do it on my hands and knees with a sponge.

Vileda spray mop. Washed with microfiber clothes my cleaner uses to clean around the house. All gets chucked in the washing machine as she blitzes the house.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/10/2020 21:39

Hoover then spray mop with flash in the unit. Cloths go in with the towels, I have 3.

Can't use steam mop as have LVT floor and it knackers the glue.

SweetPetrichor · 28/10/2020 21:44

I wipe up any spills and grubby bits as and when required, Hoover it once a week and steam mop about once a month.

LionLily · 28/10/2020 21:57

I use a Vileda 1-2-Spray with Method cleaner in it. I have 3 of the pads, I usually have a bucket of made-up baby bottle steriliser (Milton if I can get it, Tesco if I can't) and the pad goes into that along with any micro fibre cloths I've used around the house, then the whole lot goes into the washing machine on a 60 every few days.

Newfornow · 28/10/2020 22:12

I’ve never in my life washed tea towels with other washing. Easy. Just separate them from rest of washing.

VestaTilley · 28/10/2020 22:25

We use an old fashioned mop.

Why would you need to disinfect washing machine after washing cloths?? No you don’t!

PickAChew · 28/10/2020 22:54

Vacuum regularly. Spot clean with kitchen spray and paper. Every month or so use a squeeze mop and soapy water.

The tiles are fucking awful. Some sort of fake stone but unsealed and laid on floorboards. Every single one is cracked and they never come clean. Obviously meant to be sealed but they're not and anything you clean them with comes up black forever. I'd rip them up if the units hadn't been built on top of them.

PickAChew · 28/10/2020 22:56

Sponge mop goes in upstairs very warm bathroom to dry.

PickAChew · 28/10/2020 22:58

Soapy water kills most germs better than anything else. Surely that's something we've all taken away from this year?

Brigante9 · 28/10/2020 23:00

Fun times, a mop does not clean textured laminate. I scrubbed it by hand, 20x10 floor. Even now, I’m walking round going ‘Bugger, missed a bit’. I’ve done a thread about an electric scrubber but I’m not convinced it would be vicious enough!

Sheknowsaboutme · 28/10/2020 23:04

Spray mop with washable pads. I use Zoflora in it.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 28/10/2020 23:04

I put microfibre cloths and mop cloths in an old nappy bucket with Milton, then on a hot wash when I have enough.

seayork2020 · 28/10/2020 23:06

We live in an apartment with all tile floors, we use a modern rag mop with a bucket and dishwashing liquid once a week over the entire floor.

commandatori · 28/10/2020 23:06

I hoover then mop with a spray mop which I put floor cleaner in or maybe zoflora. Sometimes I steam clean it but god who can be bothered with that

Gatehouse77 · 28/10/2020 23:09

I bung all towels, cleaning cloths, tea towels, etc. in together on a 60° wash. No need to disinfect at that temperature and it kills the germs so no cross contamination.

I knew someone who would throw away soiled underwear (when potty training) because she couldn’t bring herself to put them in the machine 🤷‍♀️ I’d just soak them in Biotex (or similar) and bung them in a normal wash. She clearly found that gross, I found her reaction weird!

Twillow · 28/10/2020 23:17

Spray mop once a week, cloth goes in the machine with towels at 40. It's a breeze. Not the spray mop that you need to buy cartridges for though, just one that you fill the bottle up with water and a squirt of flash.
Used to do it on my hands and knees with a bowl of flash. Cannot say I felt like doing that once a week, more like once a month!!.

timeforanewstart · 28/10/2020 23:21

I have steam cleaner and a spray microfibre mop
I use method floor spray that you spray direct on floor with the microfibre cloth in between steams so prob only once a week with the mop and every two with steam
Cleaner , hoover every day and wipe up any spills with floor wipes .
Probably should do more as we also have a dog but he doesnt walk in with muddy paws . If it looks dirtt inbetween i will do
I have a couple mop heads and my frontroom and hall is lao hard floor so i use about 2/3 as always use seperate one for bathrooms
I must admit i do put them in machine on there own at 60 degrees often after dog blanket wash and use a bit dettol laundry cleanser too

Lovely1a2b3c · 28/10/2020 23:45

I use a Vileda spray mop but fill it with slightly-concentrated Milton (3 tablets in 5 litres) in place of disinfectant spray so there are no nasties to breathe it.

We also have a Flash speedmop, which is great.

EyelinerRocks · 29/10/2020 00:36

Hoover
Spray mop ( i put boiling water and zoflora and bleach in the wee bottle bit )
Steam mop about twice a month
Also spot clean with bleach wipes if needed

It’s never dirty
I clean as I go

nodogz · 29/10/2020 03:42

I've got the irobot braava jet 240 and reusable pads. I think it was less than £150 with everything. I really hate mopping so I was happy to gamble on it at that price. I spray the floor with dilute flash if it's really gross and send it round with a polishing pad if I'm feeling fancy. It does the kitchen floors, posh laminate in the bathroom and oak floors all very nicely.*

I got one for my Nan who is 90 and insisted on washing her floor by hand on her knees. And she is a fan. I think she will ask for a robot hoover for Christmas. (I don't trust machines that do two functions mop/hoover and wash/dry so no idea if mop/hoover hybrid works.)*

In the kitchen it dodges rugs and bins no problem. My rooms are quite big and it does then on a single charge. If things are a bit cluttered it might need rescuing* * from a corner now and again.
*

  • a human (me) could clean the floor better but in reality there is no way I would mop 2-4 times a week so this is better all round

4.1 out o

safariboot · 29/10/2020 03:46

Vacuum then Vilda microfibre mop.

Why would I need to launder the mop head? It's cleaned when it goes in the mop bucket water and detergent surely? Then A quick rinse after, squeeze, leave to dry.

Toothsil · 29/10/2020 04:01

Flash Power Mop, £9.99 from Farmfoods, I believe Home Bargains and B and M have them too but some places are my ore expensive. It's great, so easy to use. It has a bottle of detergent which came with it, and you just press a button and it sprays the floor.

lazyfecker · 29/10/2020 05:31

I worry my machine isn't really reaching those temps. I think it was Which? Magazine that tested machines and almost none of them were reaching the temps claimed.

Nothing worse than living with stuff up hate like your tiles. I've got a few things like that with this house!
