Find my iPhone - is there a way link to another phone by accident?

I broke up with my EX 2 months ago. He’s had a strange way of ‘bumping’ into me including gate crashing a date.

After interviewing my friends if any of them were leaking my where abouts it appears that I’ve been sharing my location with him thru ‘find my iPhone’.

I was usually quite closed with passwords/locations with him as when we first started seeing each other he admitted that he had my iPhone location on his laptop as I had logged into find my iPhone incase I was ever in an accident - red flag I know so that’s why I was always careful as he always wanted to know what I was up to and I never liked it (obvs!)

Is there anyway I may of accidentally linked our phones without me actually sharing my location (I didn’t know you could do that - just thought you had to manually log into FMI). Friends are advising I call the police but I don’t want egg on my face if I’ve linked them by mistake.

Nearer the end I found out that he was snooping on my phone so I know he had my passcode and was going on it in the dead of night.

Sorry if it doesn’t make that much sense as I’m exhausted, phone is about to die and I’ve got a lot on my mind.

If he knows your Apple ID and password he can track you.

Tiredeyesneedsleep · 27/10/2020 22:42

Yes you can track other peoples iPhone fro. Find my iPhone if they have allowed it. If he had access to your phone he may well have turned this on and wouldn't need your apple password to track you.

Cantdoitallperfectly · 27/10/2020 22:43

Change your Apple ID. If you’re really worried back your phone up to iCloud and do a factory reset just to make sure he doesn’t have any spying apps on your phone.

Or he could be tracking you though snaochat, Facebook, or have installed another app

RandomMess · 27/10/2020 22:46

I would suspect he could have put spyware on your phone, key logger is another option if you have a laptop...

See if he’s added you to the Find My app. If he’s following you, it’ll say ‘So and So can see your location’. It’s easy enough to remove.

Or he’s got your iCloud login and can see where you are BUT your phone would be notified of every web login with a pop-up.

More likely while your phone was unattended he set you up to share your location with him on Find My on the phone.

There is only one way you can do this by mistake--I know this because I've done it. If you share your location in a text message intending to just share your current location to help someone find you in a restaurant or something, it's possible to accidentally share your location permanently instead of just once.

If you still have any texts from him, open it, click the info, and see if you have "share my location" on there. If you have, you did it and he didn't. If not, I don't think you could have done it.

Beldon · 27/10/2020 23:19

Check you are not disclosing your location on WhatsApp too. I’m surprised how many people do this

longcoffeebreak · 27/10/2020 23:56

How do you disclose your location on WhatsApp?? 😬 @Beldon

Osirus · 28/10/2020 00:01

Through Family Sharing? My iPhone is visible through this to my DH. We share calendar, photos etc.

Beldon · 28/10/2020 00:11

Sorry, not WhatsApp, it’s snapchat. You can check on map to see where friends are if they haven’t chosen to hide themselves

12in21 · 28/10/2020 00:14

When you go into the “Find my” app, what does it say under “People?”

12in21 · 28/10/2020 00:15

You can also go into “Find my” in Settings and it will show you who can see your location. Delete his name if it’s there.

12in21 · 28/10/2020 00:16

And yes, change your Apple ID password ASAP

BluebellsGreenbells · 28/10/2020 00:18

Go on the Fimd my app and log out of all except your phone

Then see who can track you in the people sharing option

BluebellsGreenbells · 28/10/2020 00:18

Oh and change your Apple ID password

12in21 · 28/10/2020 21:41

What did you find @Breakupcharlie?
