Semi inspired by another thread but I'm curious what other people think.

To ask you what do you think is my ethnicity?

Scottish? You look very like a Scottish friend of mine!

So much for my detective skills!

Mixed - Africa/Caribbean one side & White (not necessarily UK White & not necessarily direct mix, could be via 1 grandparent) on other

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 27/10/2020 22:56

Very few of us realise how mixed up we are until we get a DNA test. Many are shocked and confused. I love that we are all so mixed, even those who have no idea they are. Smile

raspberryk · 27/10/2020 22:57

What an interesting mix, I would have said Greek and I wouldn’t have thought you weren’t white to be honest. But then I hadn’t realised Megan Markle wasn’t white either, maybe Latino if I’d looked closer. When they kept going on about racism towards her I couldn’t work out why ConfusedBlush

Cocomarine · 28/10/2020 00:36

Oooooh, late to the party but I was going to guess Israeli!

Georgeoftheinternet · 28/10/2020 03:54

Stupid thread that should be closed.

What did you hope to achieve?

The reason why we stop basing people on “where are you from based on looks” is because ethnicity minorities start claiming they don’t fit it, they don’t feel like they belong and they ate judged on their race.

Back to your original post - you have dyed your hair, lighting is of and who cares what your ethnicity is.

Mysterydna · 28/10/2020 06:50

I'm glad there aren't that many sour grapes!

I actually consider myself a double minority and tell people that I'm technically a POC as given my generic makeup I should be some shade of brown.

I don't consider myself white but as you can tell from the thread nobody would can tell and to some I'm not even that exotic looking

Yes, I'm from the US but now live in the UK. My folks met in California. I always thought bit was very interesting to see that my ME genes were more dominant but now that I have children I can tell that my indigenous blood is recessive. It's a shame though as obviously I think that makes them more disconnected to that side of their heritage.

I think it’s been an interesting thread.

If I knew OP I would just have assumed she was white. The same as a previous poster I thought Megan Markle was white and until it was pointed out I did not see that she was mixed race.

Because of the OP’s question I obviously realised she must have some different heritage and it was interesting to see how many people guessed similar things. I wonder if I’m just very unobservant or whether it’s some form of unconscious bias that I assume people are white unless they’re obviously not. Or maybe it’s just because someone’s race/ethnic background isn’t a concern for me as I’d like to think I’d treat everyone the same regardless?

paintmywholehousecobweb · 28/10/2020 07:00

Greek Armenian?

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/10/2020 07:04

Scottish Italian.

paintmywholehousecobweb · 28/10/2020 07:04

Sorry RTWT after posting! 🙄

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/10/2020 07:06

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong.

Mysterydna · 28/10/2020 07:31

@JacobReesMogadishu I find it very interesting. It's also very funny because once people know my admixture they say they can see it (doubt it).

My exMIL used to say my DD would look Asian (subcontinent type) but I doubted given that side is all white British. DD looks like Goldilocks.

My DP is the one that made start questioning everything as I always thought I definitely didn't look white and he's the one who's always said that unless I explain it most people would think I'm your average white with maybe some Mediterranean thrown to the mix.

I found that fascinating, and you are far too youthful/fresh faced to have children!

What an interesting mix of cultures to navigate!

Maireas · 28/10/2020 08:08

I was going to say Turkish or Israeli. The Syrian Jew heritage seems stronger than the Native Mexican. What a fantastic mix! Your daughter looks like Goldilocks, but I wonder what her daughter will look like......

Mysterydna · 28/10/2020 08:40

My sister married a Turkish Kurd (he's blue eyed) but my nephew looks Korean! I think the NA genes are more dominant in her but so far is a family mystery.

Givemeabreak88 · 28/10/2020 08:47

Well I thought it was interesting! I’m mixed race black Caribbean and white British and everyone thinks I’m white, even my children say I’m white Confused

OwlOne · 28/10/2020 08:49

Iranian, Armenian or Turksih

OwlOne · 28/10/2020 08:53

@Mysterydna

A few have more or less got it right by now. But *@edwardson* was the first.

I'm half Native American (or Indigenous Mexican whichever way you want to call it) and half Syrian Jew.

Oh wow! Thanks for revealing :-)
DBML · 28/10/2020 09:07

The cool skin tone threw me. With such brown eyes, you’d expect a warm skin tone. I would have also said white.

Mysterydna · 28/10/2020 09:55

Well everybody tells me I'm white and some take offense of me saying I'm a POC. Maybe I don't look like one but genetically I should be very much "brown". It's also denying the discrimination both sides of my family have suffered.
