I don't wash my face, am I disgusting?

After years of trying different cleansers, toners and moisturisers, I realised that all they do for my skin is dry it out and make it look worse/more oily. I now use nothing. Water gets on my face in the shower but that is it. I'll use a bit of moisturiser in the winter if I feel I need it. My skin honestly looks and feels 100x better but I feel what I'm doing is somehow "wrong" and a bit grose. Anyone else?

Water and a flannel here. I do wear a very light spf/foundation but it's worn off by the end of the day so it's mostly my eyes that I'm cleaning.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/10/2020 16:45

If it works for your skin I'm sure it is as natural as possible.
My face needs moisture after a shower. I love scrubbing my face with exfoliation beads.

BestZebbie · 27/10/2020 16:52

I also only use water. I suspect that you only need to use a product to clean it everyday if you also apply a full-coverage make-up to it every day, as you have to remove the makeup layer overnight somehow.

EstuaryBird · 27/10/2020 16:53

I’ve found my people 😃.

Only water, no make up and amazing skin for a 65 year old 👍

SlopesOff · 27/10/2020 16:54

Water and flannel here, removes dead skin and grot I do not use moisturiser as I don't need it.

YukoandHiro · 27/10/2020 17:02

Nope! During lockdown I also stopped wearing make up and stopped routinely cleansing or moisturising my face other than plain water in the shower each morning. My skin is so much better for it.

I'm on maternity leave now so I can keep this up for another year but really not sure what I'm going to do when I return to work

Beautiful3 · 27/10/2020 17:06

I used to have a full skin care routine but my skin was so spotty. When I swapped my products for a splash of water and aveeno moisturizer, my skin never looked better.

Hiccupiscal · 27/10/2020 20:33

Love this thread, think of all the money saved, and unnecessary rubbish being thrown into landfill.
Making a stand against the beauty companies telling us we need all these things of our skin to be good and to be beautiful.

Love that lockdown made PP stop wearing make up and needing to use products to wash, prehaps when you go back your make up routine can be slimlined?

I think alot of products just make skin worse, when breathing space from chemicals etc, hydration and simple cleansing is all that is needed!

Rollmopsrule · 27/10/2020 20:45

I think good skin is basically down to luck with genes and whether you drink alot or smoke. Water for me, an occasional scrub in the shower and argan oil at night. I do wear make up but not every day. I have to say I am proud of my skin but my Mum has amazing skin for a 76yr old so I have her to thank for that.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 27/10/2020 20:55

Your face is covered in sweat on a morning so YABU not to wash it with more than water then.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/10/2020 20:56

I use very little. My skin is great.

throwaway100000 · 27/10/2020 20:58

Why would that be gross? Water is the recommended “cleanser” for sensitised skin! As long as you’re properly rinsing your skin to remove debris eg drool, eye sleep etc

throwaway100000 · 27/10/2020 21:01

Don’t get me wrong though - I still think you should apply moisturiser to your face if it’s dry and also properly remove your makeup with a cleanser. Water alone may not completely do the trick.

Kissthepastrychef · 27/10/2020 21:01

After years and years of cystic acne and trying everything under the sun my skin miraculously cleared up about 2 years ago. I literally don't put anything on it, rarely wear foundation, don't use any chemicals on it at all.
It's never looked so good. But I'm also a once a week hair-washer and several hairdressers have commented on the healthiness and condition of my hair, which I don't use a dryer or heat products on, use the cheapest shampoo and conditioner I can find and use no products on.

Chickenandrice · 27/10/2020 21:03

I do this too now. After years of washing and drying it out and moisturing etc. Now it seems to just sort itself out

AnnaMagnani · 27/10/2020 21:03

Me neither. Don't wear makeup, face gets wet in the shower.

I did once get massively into skincare - tretinoin, the whole works - and I'll admit my skin looked amazing.

But given I don't smoke or get much sun exposure, and tend to oily skin - it still looks pretty good now.

KenzoBaby · 27/10/2020 21:04

I once read that the reason you need to wash your face in the AM is because it's covered in dead skin cells from whoever you sleep with eg - your partner or your cat!

Sophoa · 27/10/2020 21:04

Me neither 90% of the time. I use occasional make up remover, occasional moisturiser and that’s it. My skin is great. I’ve purposely avoided introducing my teen to a skin care routine. She’s nearly 15 and her skin is flawless. I’m sure the 2 are connected

kennycat · 27/10/2020 21:04

Yep just water here too. I don’t actually wash my arms or legs either really, just let the bubbles go over them in the shower. I bet some people think that’s manky too! Nobody has ever mentioned that I’m a smelly a’porth though so I’m sticking with it.

KenzoBaby · 27/10/2020 21:05

I just use Avene simple cleanser and a flannel FWIW.

SaltandPepperIt · 27/10/2020 21:07

My mum has only used soap on her face and moisturiser. Amazing skin at 80 looks in her 60s

topcat2014 · 27/10/2020 21:07

I only use (v hot) water to wash body /face / hair.

I have to, due to eczema.

I promise I am not some new age type, I know it sounds minging.

Happy with my hair though, which is better.

Makeup not applicable here.

Fluffybutter · 27/10/2020 21:07

Nope , you clean your face with water . That’s still washing it

WhenDoWeEnterTier4 · 27/10/2020 21:10

Water if I haven't been using moisturiser or sun cream so autumn and spring. Summer and winter I will use micellar water as that's enough to remove sun screen for example.

Keha · 27/10/2020 21:10

Same, just splash with water. I don't wear make up though.
