I don't wash my face, am I disgusting?

After years of trying different cleansers, toners and moisturisers, I realised that all they do for my skin is dry it out and make it look worse/more oily. I now use nothing. Water gets on my face in the shower but that is it. I'll use a bit of moisturiser in the winter if I feel I need it. My skin honestly looks and feels 100x better but I feel what I'm doing is somehow "wrong" and a bit grose. Anyone else?

Not at all! I stopped wearing make up and love that I just use water or sometimes I’ll use an oil then water to remove any residue

Ihavenoideawhatmyusernameis · 27/10/2020 15:40

I don’t use soap on my face. Just splash water every day and leave it at that. My skin is loads better and I hardly ever get any dry skin or spots

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 27/10/2020 15:40

Oh and we’ve just be brainwashed into thinking we need all these products, our skin doesn’t

icedaisy · 27/10/2020 15:41

Same. Shower in morning, water gets on face. Splash with cold water before bed. That's it.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 27/10/2020 15:42

People have different needs. I would look and feel grotty if I didn’t use a cleanser on my skin twice a day.

thecatsthecats · 27/10/2020 15:42

Never separately washed my face in my life, unless I've just eaten a mango or something.

Even if I did do separate washing routines for it, it would be in the shower anyway.

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 15:42

I wear make up and use wipes to remove it but that's it.
I tried a whole skin routine in my mid 20s thinking 'that's what women do'Hmm and it will get rid of my spots...it just made it worse.
My skin was like sandpaper. Loads of raised bumps and patches. Now I do nothing with it and only get my usual hormonal spots.

Bunnymumy · 27/10/2020 15:43

Same really. It gets washed when in the shower with water and that's it. Unless it's to remove makeup.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/10/2020 15:44

Same. Just water whilst having a shower.
Always had greasy skin and every product I've ever tried has blocked pores and caused spots or a rash.

Use a cleanser on the very rare occasion I wear make up.

borntohula · 27/10/2020 15:45

I wear primer and a bit of concealer so I have to wash it really.

Beautyoftheirdreams · 27/10/2020 15:45

No I don't either. Never have spots and the times that I did feel like I should be washing my face it was awful, tight and painful and so many spots. My skin is clear and I rarely wear make up

lazylinguist · 27/10/2020 15:47

I don't wash my face with soap or face wash. I do wear make-up every day though, so I take it off with a rich cleansing cream and then rinse my face with warm water. In the mornings I just splash water on my face in the shower. So, nothing that can dry out my face. It probably helps that I live in a soft water area too.

Hiccupiscal · 27/10/2020 15:47

I'm somewhere in the middle.

99.9% of time dont wear make up, so no gunk to clean off my face. AM is just a wipe with a soft fannel and hot water (and I love it)
I moisturiser with a cheap moisturiser and some sun screen.

However night time I do like to cleanse, tone & moisturise, but its not a huge OTT regime.

Youre certainly not gross for only using water, think of all the money youre saving, and the environment! If your skin looks great using just water, or minimal products, then you are so lucky!!!

You do you Halloween Grin

saraclara · 27/10/2020 15:48

Same. I just shower. I don't wash my face, don't use any products on it, don't wear make up. It faces the world as nature intended.
No philosophy behind that. I'm just lazy and don't like the feel of moisturizers, cleansers etc. I like my skin to just feel like skin.

FatBottomedGurl · 27/10/2020 15:51

Same. I use makeup remover for the obvious and otherwise just splash water on my face when I'm in the shower. Generally, I have very good skin and only occasional, short-lived hormone-related breakouts.

I find that if I try to integrate a new regime, like facemasks or cleaners etc, my face reacts badly (whether its sensitive skin or these new products bringing all the grime to the surface, I don't know!)
But I have learnt to leave it alone!

Sparkletastic · 27/10/2020 16:07

Would have to see what your skin looks like

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 27/10/2020 16:11

Definitely depends on your skin. Eg even though I’m 45 I still get spots if I don’t wash with actual face wash and water every day.

Mischance · 27/10/2020 16:12

Water only - suits me.

TeenPlusTwenties · 27/10/2020 16:14

No makeup and just water here too.

MegaBloxRoxx · 27/10/2020 16:14

Same. Just let water go on my face in the shower. I dont wear make up often, but if I do then I use cleanser, water and a flannel, but that's a couple of times a month max.

Gatehouse77 · 27/10/2020 16:16

I found cleansers, toners, etc. made my skin worse. I use a facial scrub in the shower and Aldi moisturiser but I haven’t worn make up since dabbling when I was 14. (Apart from my wedding day but that was for the photos and was barely anything so did it myself.

Beachhuts90 · 27/10/2020 16:18

I'm the same. I use cold cream to remove makeup and suncream and no other face product. My skin looks way better, no spots, no dry patches, no oily parts.

MrsExpo · 27/10/2020 16:30

Well OP, if you’re gross then so am I Smile .... I’m 66 and haven’t washed mine since I was 14. At that age I had awful teenage acne and was advised by a friend of my mum to stop using soap. She worked as a skincare consultant for one of the more expensive brands at the time, and so I took her advice. It worked. The spots cleared up and never returned. Now I use a mild, water based cleanser once or twice a day, moisturise and that’s it.

Itsokthanks · 27/10/2020 16:32

I started doing the same and my skin is so much better.

mindutopia · 27/10/2020 16:32

You should look into the oil cleansing method. It's great. It's the only thing that sorted out my rosacea.
