A roast chicken dinner is always the best.

When my DM died, I drove home from her bedside (3 hours) and my DH made me a roast chicken dinner. That's love, that is.

Without doubt Golden Syrup sponge and custard. My dad used to make that as a treat for us when we were little.

And you're all going to think I'm mad, but...

Shredded cabbage, fried in a little butter with smokey bacon or lardons and fried caramelised onions.

Baby back ribs jerked , home made coleslaw and fries, perfect after a tough weeks slog 😋

Isn’t it situation dependent?
I’d say fish and chips out of paper, with vinegar stinging your eyes, whilst watching waves crashing on the beach, sitting in a shelter in a thunderstorm was quite special.
Then again a rich beef stew thick with pearl barley and fluffy dumplings in front of a roaring fire after a day walking on an frosty Dartmoor is quite special too.
A seafood platter in a seafront restaurant in Biarritz on a warm late summer evening must be up there.

Pyewhacket · 27/10/2020 22:10

Fish and chips.

Sonnamabitch · 27/10/2020 22:11

A really tasty beef stroganoff. I make a bad ass one.
Can’t beat a spaghetti bolognese with garlic baguette
Risotto. Love it. HATE making it 🙄
Anyway, I’m off to raid the fridge!

Ahh I wish I could just pick one!

My mum's lamb and potato curry (or lamb chop curry) with her egg fried rice and an oniony salad on the side (indian style, like kachumber).

Caribbean curry goat/mutton with rice and peas and some slaw.

Any sort of pasta, but especially veggie lasagne or something pesto-y, with garlic baguette.

Vietnamese bún noodle salads.

Cheese board.

Beef ramen in spicy pork broth.

And weirdly- a dr oetker margherita or funghi ristorante pizza. Preferably with garlic baguette and salad.

Starter: Pan fried scallops with pea purée or a plate of langoustines

Main: turbot with brown shrimps and a shaving of truffles in a good sauce, with sautéed potatoes and buttered, wilted baby spinach

Dessert: a plateful of well ripened fruit (pineapple, mango, strawberries, pawpaws)

Yummy! 🌹
