How did you get famous? What for?
I'm incredibly curious and it's been slow tonight Smile

@StoneofDestiny

I'm a famous member of the royal family. I'd like to thank you all for your tax contributions that allow me to never have to do a proper days work in my life, to travel by chauffeur driven car everywhere, to have cooks, chefs, dressers, cleaners, hairdressers, nannies at my beck and call and to have a designer wardrobe to die for. Can't thank you enough.
Meghan? Is that you? Grin

Some intriguing answers here

teaandcustardcreamsx · 27/10/2020 22:46

I once was a helper at a preschool during work experience ... for months afterwards I heard kids shouting “HI TEA!” .... half the time I was thinking who on Earth are you Hmm would just smile and wave

A few years back I had a semi-famous Instagram account and did have quite a few random people coming up to me and saying hi when I was in London/big cities Blush

I also had a D-list celebrity maths teacher at some point

teaandcustardcreamsx · 27/10/2020 22:48

Also met Shawn Mendes

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2020 22:53

I wouldn't say famous, but I've been on TV three times in documentaries about a leisure activity I enjoy

What I didn't enjoy was that thing where, afterwards, people nudge each other and whisper about whether you really are the person they saw on Channel 4 last night, so I guess it's clear that being really well known wouldn't suit me

Highfivemum · 27/10/2020 22:54

Apparently I look just like a really famous actress 🤔 .. in the last few years I have been stopped and photographed a fair few times. To the point where I just give up saying u have the wrong person now. In summer I even appeared in the Newspaper while walking my Dog !!! Apperently they thought i had a new haircut and was looking tired !!! I just accept it now.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 27/10/2020 22:56

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I think *@Secretboringsister*'s surname is Gallagher.
Oh yeah because they're both such decent shy blokes who just want to settle down.
JustanotherTuesday · 27/10/2020 23:00

My son had a former Premiership footballer at his previous special school. He worked as a TA. He was great with all the children and didn't mind getting soaked with buckets of cold water when they held fund raising events.

Joeblack066 · 27/10/2020 23:10

zoflorabore- Julie Goodyear?

Cherrysoup · 27/10/2020 23:22

@MinnieJackson Why do you say that?

babbi · 27/10/2020 23:25

I dated someone very famous but was completely unaware initially!
Just moved to Canada and was invited out by a really nice friendly man to have a drink.
A whole load of girls descended on us “Hi Bob “ and hugged and kissed him repeatedly.
I thought he must have gone to High School with them or something.

Went to a small pizza place a few nights later , it was quiet but I noticed some people staring over and thought it was my U.K. accent that was of interest ...

A week later while we were in a restaurant, 3 sets of people approached our table asking him for an autograph.
I sat there bewildered wondering who he was and what he did , he had mentioned the sale of sports gear previously so I had assumed he was in sales .
I imagined many occupations, actor ? Not that handsome , newsreader ? No doesn’t look serious enough etc ...

We carried on eating dinner ( I was too embarrassed to ask him 😂)
In the ladies room , I asked one of the girls who came to the table to ask him for his autograph if she wouldn’t mind telling me “ who he was “ ( how crazy I must have sounded )
He turned out to be a very famous Ice Hockey player and the sports gear he “sold “was the team merchandise 😂😂

We laughed about it in the car on the way home ... he was lovely.. said he felt a bit awkward when he had realised I didn’t know him from Adam ... he was stuck on how to say “ btw I’m a very famous person in the country “ without sounding arrogant 😂
Fond memories of my time with him !!

Bemused by the spelling of 'swap' as 'swop' by two separate posters, where has that come from?

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/10/2020 23:34

I'm just sitting here waiting for Xenia to post...

Then we can explain the distinction between fame & notoriety..

MyNameForToday1980 · 27/10/2020 23:46

My grandmother's cousin was a well known politician. She shared a surname with him, which is now my middle name. It's useful for booking rooms in a specific London hotel and not much else.

Wiredforsound · 27/10/2020 23:52

My cousin is/was in a mega famous 80s/90s hair rock band. Up there with Bon Jovi and Whitesnake. Lives in LA now with the full rock and roll lifestyle - vegan, teetotaller after years of living the hard life, supermodel wife, kids trying to be supermodels but they look like him, not her. Nicest, gentlest man you could meet.

TheCuntOfTheLitter · 28/10/2020 00:01

@Curioushorse

My brother is becoming increasingly famous in his field. He’s on television several times a week at the moment. He’s very eloquent and is a useful ‘expert’ to interview because he is particularly good at explaining things that the people specialising in those fields aren’t good at explaining.

I don’t know that it’s great. It means he finds it a bit difficult to relate to people- and they find it difficult to relate to him. He lives in a big house, but they currently send their kids to a state school. I think that’ll have to change soon- but I don’t quite know where the kids would fit in. So it’s not so much that he’s famous- it’s more that I think it’s a bit of a weird lifestyle for his kids.

I’m trying to be a bit vague about what he’s famous in- but I’ll just be generic and say journalism.

He’s the Irish stats guy whose always on the BBC... am I close?!
EdinaMonsoon · 28/10/2020 00:14

@Zoflorabore it has to be Julie Goodyear!

Undercovering · 28/10/2020 00:15

I used to know someone who went to dance class with one of Brian Cant’s sons.

StoneofDestiny · 28/10/2020 01:00

Teaandcustardcreamsx

Meghan? Is that you?
Hell no! Ghastly SIL has made it more difficult for me. She actually had a job and earned her own money! Ugh. Spoilt it for the rest of us
My life as a clothes horse is under threat!

PhilSwagielka · 28/10/2020 02:38

@Pepperwand

Not at all famous but back in the day my dad worked in PR with some very famous household names. I remember a couple of incidents where I met a premiership footballer and one where a very well known actor called the house telephone. My mum answered and was all flustered Grin.
On the subject of phone calls, Tony Blair used to ring our house cos he got our number mixed up with Gordon Brown’s. This was before he was PM.
PhilSwagielka · 28/10/2020 02:45

Also, the Gallagher brothers don’t have a sister, they have an older brother called Paul.

Orkneys · 28/10/2020 02:47

@en0lagay

One of my relatives is, I sometimes meet strangers who ask me about them even though my relative lives in Australia and I live in Wales.
Kylie Minogue... her mom is Welsh
Orkneys · 28/10/2020 02:55

John Bishop

Orkneys · 28/10/2020 02:59

I reckon Emma Willis is on here Kate Winslet and Charlotte Church

FloraButterCookie · 28/10/2020 03:20

I'm not famous at all but my business has a relatively large social media following. A lot of people know who I am from seeing me on social media. I'm not a blogger or influencer, but they see me talking about my business related stuff. The bit I find weird is people I don't know coming up me & talking to me like they know me really well, lol.
