How did you get famous? What for?
I'm incredibly curious and it's been slow tonight Smile

OP posts:
Mariola212 · 28/10/2020 03:21

My friend's dad was in Black Sabbath. Used go round and smoke weed when I was a teenager. 😂 The dad was really nice chilled guy, not crazy rock star at all.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/10/2020 03:37

Not me but one of my friends used to be a TV presenter in an academic subject - think Mary Beard or Brian Cox sort of thing although not as famous. It was quite strange being out with her when she was recognised, and how people reacted to her.

Ghosts2020 · 28/10/2020 03:46

I once competed high level in a sport and not the same sport but met Tom Daley, I know Colin Mcfarlane on a personal level, I know a world renowned hair dresser (name would give where I'm from away) , I was on TV a few times campaigning for libraries to be reinstalled, for improvements in children's services, in a BBC singing programme, assisted musically with the soundtrack to a very famous Disney movie, I am now studying Higher level towards an advanced degree which should allow me to develop technology to help suicide and coma victims and within the next couple of weeks I will be on a BBC programme to discuss serious failings during lockdown.... Oh I also have to blue Peter badges amomgst other achievements, I'm under 30 and no people don't often recognise me

Ghosts2020 · 28/10/2020 03:49

Also Barbara Windsor ex husband is a close relative along with an ex England player and manager

wheresthehope · 28/10/2020 04:32

I went to school with a very famous rugby player in New Zealand

ShopTattsyrup · 28/10/2020 05:18

My mother has worked with plenty of actors over the years, the only one she's ever said anything negative about is oddly enough probably one of the most famous ones who she had a brief fling with in the late 80s, apparently he was a smug prick Grin

One of my mother's close friends is an actress, fairly well known but not Hollywood famous - does TV and films in the UK and America, you would be more likely to recognise her face than her name. We've been out for dinner or drinks for birthdays etc. And there tends to be more staring than people coming over, I suppose because people recognise her face as opposed to actually recognising her - which is a little unsettling.

custardbear · 28/10/2020 05:41

My cousin is an actress, does lots of voice overs, is in a well known radio soap - flies under the radar, hope she does well though as she's very nice,

A family friend of around 40 years is an actress, in programmes like only fools and horses (smaller part), Hollyoaks, Eastenders, Heartbeat. She's lovely

Mulderitssme · 28/10/2020 05:50

My cousin is a producer for a long running BBC show. Some of the stories he tells about the people he's met are really quite illuminating.

joystir59 · 28/10/2020 06:04

I was featured in a double page spread in the London newspaper Evening Standard some years ago. It was weird feeling that people be reading the paper on the tube and look up and recognise me. Nobody did.

The Archers, @custardbear? Can you give us a clue about who she plays?

I wasn't serious about the Gallagher brothers!

custardbear · 28/10/2020 06:13

My dad used to be very regular at a local pub when I was a kid, loads of mates up there, typical boozer. A very famous rock musician lived nearby and he'd often drop in, him and another if my dads mates who is a musician and actor, plus a few others would often do jamming sessions. It was the sort of pub that was mainly regulars, but often random people would drop in for a drink and comment 'you look just like xxxx ' and he'd say 'yea I get that a lot lol' - apparently he was very down to earth even though their music is legendary.

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2020 07:18

Sounds familiar @littlecaf. We don’t even have a particularly unusual surname !

Flamingolingo · 28/10/2020 07:23

I don’t think I know anyone famous, but DH is probably well known in a certain area of scientific research. He’s reasonably high profile nationally and internationally and before pandemic travelled a lot - he was asked to give his opinion on the recent Nobel prize for the national media etc, and has been featured in the New Yorker and Esquire. I don’t really bump into people who know him regularly, but once an NHS consultant asked me about him (unusual surname) during an intimate medical exam. Apparently they’ve worked together and he asked to send his regards Blush

waitrosetrollydolly · 28/10/2020 07:24

My products are but I am happy to remain incognito.
I dress better than I used to, and drive a better car, oh and have a few properties dotted about the world, but other than that I haven't changed much. (I still dunk rich tea biscuits in my cuppa)

eaglejulesk · 28/10/2020 07:41

I went to school with a current politician, and am distantly related to another - who was a Cabinet Minister in the last government (and probably will be again) in NZ.

tmh88 · 28/10/2020 08:13

I’m not famous and neither is my ex but I was once flicking through the tv channels and my jaw dropped when he was on the tele promoting his new book in an interview!

scentedgeranium · 28/10/2020 08:23

One of my best friends from uni is now very big in New York. Real mover shaker Englishman in New York kind of character, features in style mags and orchestrates a v big annual event. Gets him interviewed in glossies and high brow newspapers. I struggle with the whole concept that he is now in this position!

MinnieJackson · 28/10/2020 08:41

@Cherrysoup just a guess. Obviously Bob's very famous and I know fifi loves dogs and horses and from what I've seen is very down to earth like you say your friend is

purplesky18 · 28/10/2020 08:56

My DP isn’t famous but he specialises in very high brow furniture so has done a lot of work for a lot of famous people. He is currently working for Noel Gallagher and says he is the nicest one he’s met. He’s worked for Liz Hurley, Bill Oddie, the prime minister of Kazakhstan (yes he had to fly there and he said it is really nothing like Borat portrays), John Terry and Cara Delivignes Dad 😂

vidalbaboon · 28/10/2020 08:59

@Slightlyunhinged

I'm not famous, but my mum was well known in my small home town because she taught at the same primary school for 30 years and so taught many of the local population. When I first moved back here with my new husband, I did warn him that he would have to get used to the fact that half the population knew her, but he didn't believe me. Not until he decided to join the Lions shortly after moving and at his first meeting, 4 separate people came up to him and said 'oh, so you're Mrs X's son in law!
That's lovely Smile reminds me of this song: A_

Family friend: Diane Langton?
Hopefullynamechanged935 · 28/10/2020 09:25

@DC3Dakota nope - I write crime thrillers! I'm a very normal person, currently writing this in my dressing gown, putting off starting my words for the day

Are you Martina Cole? Smile

Hopefullynamechanged935 · 28/10/2020 09:36

No, I have had six bestsellers published

Fluffybutter · 28/10/2020 09:37

My dad also has his own IMDb page and no he’s not a “fluffer”.
I have met quite a few famous people because of his job ,a few being definitely classed as “A list” but I wouldn’t say my dad is famous although I did see him on tv once Grin
