Work Leaving Presents / Parties and Redundancies

I have put myself forwards for Voluntary Redundancy - a couple of colleagues know I am going as my Line Manager has told them (although I haven't been told yet officially). They have asked what I want for my leaving present.

Nice gesture but half of our staff are up for redundancy and nearly all of them will go.

AIBU to politely ask them not to get me anything? It's always one of these round robin collection things where everyone is asked to chip in. I also don't want a leaving party (virtual or otherwise) but don't want to come across as rude.

YABU - Let them send the email
YANBU - Ask them not to send the email

You're very kind OP, I'd be the same. Lots of people will face financial difficulty. Unless everyone is getting a whip round I wouldn't want it either.

I'd just accept a token bunch of flowers or something. Like you I wouldn't want people to spend money unnecessarily in difficult times.
