AIBU to ask what the actual hell these are for sale on a local selling site? Is there a market for (what looks like) poo covered fruit?? Google is no help at trying to figure out what these are so I'm throwing it open to Mumsnet collective wisdom.

They're fishing equipment.

Its a silt covered dumpy pear for fishing, it goes into riverbeds on a fishing line and absorbs water to attract the fish.

No idea how google wasnt useful i googles it and all the info came straight up about what they are and what they are for. Confused

Not sure why you're having difficulty. A quick google shows they're used in fishing.

How boring. I thought it was going to be a new fetish.

I'd never heard of them before, and the name plus the visual is amusingly strange. I do wonder if OP just wanted an excuse to share these curiosities with a larger audience, though, since searching "dumpy pear" does yield a quick explanation...

I swear google gave me no helpful clues yesterday but maybe I misspelled or missed out a key word as it has revealed all this morning.

Nice to be accused of "performance posting" though. Cheers.

Thank you OP - they made me smile and brightened a crap morning considerably. Intentionally or not. I would have quite believed in them - similar to those coffee beans that go thru a cat!
