2021 will suck as much as 2020

All the 2020 sucks, this year needs to get done, being on Christmas so we can move onto next year.

But I don't think 2021 is going to be better?

We'll start it with tons of areas under Tier 3 restrictions having had a very quiet NYE.

if it hasn't come by then, England will still be anticipating a fire break, and the rest of the UK will be wondering if they'll have another one.

The economy will be shit, and everyone will be even more poor then usual by trying to compensate for everything with Christmas excess

New Year sale shopping will be torturous with SD

As we come round to the Anniversary of the first lockdown, still with lots of people dying from this and from the impact of this.

Then it'll be another Easter of linked holiday options given quarantine restrictions, then all the exam worry and that stands then all the mess over start of university/schools and that listing up the cases and then back into flu season and dark nights

I just think it's better to be realistic that 2021 will be crap too rather then thinking the midnight bells will herald some sort of pandemic salvation

If I’ve got any dog spirit, it’s dachshund spirit. Tetchy little buggers.

Eh? Thought it would be over by Christmas and we could skip into the sunlit uplands on our unicorns.

Ah, they said that about the First World War but that went on for 4 years.

vidalbaboon · 27/10/2020 06:08

Amazon won't deliver me a unicorn. Apparently they've got the Unicorn involved and are refusing nasal swabs. Bloody over-excited horses any way

Grin You've got a great sense of humour!

Why not spend 2021 hanging out on MN? It'll either kill you or cure you!

It is going to be shit, but expected shit so we need to plan. Find different methods to cheer us up.

I’m more concerned about brexit and no deal. I can’t stop it, so I’m coming around to accepting it.

WitchesSpelleas · 27/10/2020 07:38

At least we will know what to expect.

At the start of 2020 most people were expecting a normal year, with perhaps added optimism because it was a 'new decade'. Covid19 was some obscure thing in China, that, like the SARS virus of a few years ago, probably wouldn't come to anything for people in the UK.

So we carried on as normal in January, became a bit uneasy in February, then in March the shit hit the fan and turned our expectations of 2020 upside down.

It won't be like that next year. We will know what to expect from the outset, so we won't be disappointed.

Enoughnowstop · 27/10/2020 07:48

The trick is going to be finding joy in the everyday and remaining positive. I am struggling with the thought of the dark months ahead and the persistent ‘what if...’ hanging over us. But there are smiles to be had, even if you have to look harder for them than normal, and I think they’re the things to hang on to.

Inkpaperstars · 27/10/2020 07:51

Will it end or we just accept it kills lots of people much like we accept flu does?

If and when it affects society in the same way flu does, it will be deemed to have ended I guess. There would be increased pressure on the NHS but that would have to be adjusted for as much as possible.

@Christmasfairy2020

Jan will be terrible when the students go back to uni
I don't think the students will be going back. They'll be online learning. They fucked up once asking them to return. They won't fuckup twice.

It's not covid we need to worry about in 2021, it's the recession and unemployment.

2020 will look like a walk in the park compared to what the recession holds for many. I've actually had a nice but different year. 6 month of my kids at home which was hard but also kind of nice. Money for staying home. Nice weather. Nice amenities on our doorstep. Not particularly worried about money once Rishi started dishing it out.

Next year tho, next year will be a realisation that many businesses are permanently lost. For various reasons. And no way to replace those jobs. Or revenue.

So yeah. 21 is gonna be shit but not directly due to lockdowns or restrictions, but because every fucker going to be too skint to go anywhere anyway.

If you have any surplus income I would suggest quietly putting it to one side now. It won't help the economy but it may help you and your family personally.

RedToothBrush · 27/10/2020 08:05

We still wont have enough hospital beds for next autumn / winter even with a covid vaccine.

The penny hasn't dropped with most people on this.

Wales is already threatening a second national full lockdown. At least some parts of England will go the same way.

And the government still haven't a fucking clue what they are doing with end of transition and are actively planning for miles of queues in Dover and lorry parks throughout the country... So yeah that looks fun.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 27/10/2020 20:06

But I don't think 2021 is going to be better?

I think it's all a matter of keeping a positive outlook.

Locusts, for example, are a great source of protein and many people actually find the noise of huge swarms of them quite relaxing.

TingTastic · 27/10/2020 20:33

I honestly think the beginning of the year is going to be even worse than this one! Most likely in full lockdown plus grappling with brexit in Jan

However, by May I think the most vulnerable and healthcare professionals will have been vaccinated, plus we will be coming into the summer decline in CV19 which will buy us time to vaccinate a lot more people by September. So I think we will be mostly back to normal by the summer. By then, brexit issues will have settled down as well so we should be past the food shortages etc (but with permanently higher prices)

lazyfecker · 28/10/2020 06:14

The only way out is through! Trite, but what else is there? I don't say this because I have no problems either.

Thanks for everyone.

Inkpaperstars · 28/10/2020 06:27

It's very true lazyfecker

SnuggyBuggy · 28/10/2020 06:39

I think people are either in denial over Brexit or maybe don't have room in their minds to think about it with covid being the immediate problem. For me prepping may not make me feel more positive is giving me something to focus on.
