2021 will suck as much as 2020

SleepingStandingUp · 26/10/2020 18:58

All the 2020 sucks, this year needs to get done, being on Christmas so we can move onto next year.

But I don't think 2021 is going to be better?

We'll start it with tons of areas under Tier 3 restrictions having had a very quiet NYE.

if it hasn't come by then, England will still be anticipating a fire break, and the rest of the UK will be wondering if they'll have another one.

The economy will be shit, and everyone will be even more poor then usual by trying to compensate for everything with Christmas excess

New Year sale shopping will be torturous with SD

As we come round to the Anniversary of the first lockdown, still with lots of people dying from this and from the impact of this.

Then it'll be another Easter of linked holiday options given quarantine restrictions, then all the exam worry and that stands then all the mess over start of university/schools and that listing up the cases and then back into flu season and dark nights

I just think it's better to be realistic that 2021 will be crap too rather then thinking the midnight bells will herald some sort of pandemic salvation

Come on, don’t be so miserable! 😂 It will be a much better year for the majority. Vaccine on the horizon. Therapeutics improving. Hopefully Trump pulling fluff out of his bellybutton on a yacht somewhere with strong currents. It’s going to be great.

WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere · 26/10/2020 20:14

I think we need to get realistic about this, stop pretending that everything will be normal soon. Case in point: GCSE exams. They should have been cancelled instead of this pretence that it’ll all be fine, which will just cause stress and anguish when it’s not all fine and smooth sailing. 2021 will not be normal, let’s plan accordingly instead of being disappointed.

Fluffybutter · 26/10/2020 20:18

I don’t see the point in a thread like this other than to depress people further.
There are already very positive noises about a vaccine so don’t see the point in being pessimistic when this year isn’t even over yet.
I’ll remain positive that next year can only be better than this year covid wise

Fluffybutter · 26/10/2020 20:20

@Cocomarine

Well, it’s what you make it. I’ve lost a family member to Covid, I’m in Tier 3, I’ve cancelled holidays, dealt with children missing school... There’s still been fab stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️
Snap. Lost a family member to covid at the beginning and the school bit was hard but we still made some good memories and will make more .
Mindymomo · 26/10/2020 20:24

It’s got to be better.
Lost FIL in Feb.
DH had heart attack and needed a triple heart bypass, in April and was in a ward where people were not being tested for covid unless they had a cough.

The positives to come out of this were spending quality time with our 2 adult sons who normally don’t get on, but really pulled together for me and DH.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/10/2020 20:26

YANBU. Yes the vaccine may well be here and ready by then or The Rona may clear off by itself. However to a lot of people the damage is already done and it’s gonna take years for things to recover. It’s not going to be just a case of sticking a vaccine in someone and then abracadabra it’s all honkey dorey

Heyahun · 26/10/2020 20:46

Gawd the moaning - you need to find something to do to make Your life fun / bearable while we get through this! Take up a hobby? Think of the things your are allowed do instead of focusing on the negatives only!
Once winter is over and the weathers better it won’t be so bad. I’m finding the winter lockdown slightly harder than the first one - summer was deffo easier as could do loads outdoors - not as easy now!

But there is plenty to do even if it is just on your own or with your household only!

Therarestone · 26/10/2020 20:51

Oh ffs Hmm

Exactly this

Maybe there'll be an alien invasion to keep things spicy.

But yes, I don't see things changing until June 2021 at least. I remember one expert saying things might be ok for Christmas 2021...

@PicsInRed

Murder Hornets? I read they're 5cm long. Just a little something to look forward to.
We already have those here
BogRollBOGOF · 26/10/2020 21:03

I'm not looking forwards to getting through the winter. I'm no winter lover and last years was a sodden quagmire for 9 months until the brink of lockdown, and 7+ months existing on the delights of the great outdoors is wearing more than a little thin...

BUT...

We know this is seasonal. World wide, virus rates plunge when places reach their spring, when it's easier to get outdoors, when respiritory illnesses naturally tail off.

2021 won't be properly normal, but there will be a lot more outdoor events albeit with reduced capacities and distancing measures, but there will be a lot more to look forwards too.

Hopefully we can drop some of the stupid, ineffective rules like not having access to sanitation blocks when camping, that have curtailed life with little actual benefit.

Vaccine developments will be a bonus.

Leaannb · 26/10/2020 21:03

@Connelloni

You could try to look at some positives instead.

2021 is likely to bring a vaccine

Even without a vaccine numbers were pretty low this summer, with some population immunity they should be even better in 2021

We are much better equipped to treat people who are seriously ill now so we shouldn’t see the same spikes in deaths

We will be much closer to the end of the pandemic than we are right now

Where is the population immunity going to come from
blueangel19 · 26/10/2020 21:06

I am looking forward to 2021. Feeling positive even though the world has gone mad. The pandemic is the least of my worries tbh there is so much more going on.

TwentyViginti · 26/10/2020 21:08

@bellinisurge

Post transition Brexit will be the piss icing on a shit cake
Yep. A soggy, lurgy ridden Island (and a half) all on our own.

I like this thread. We can moan and be as pessimistic as we like. No one has to read it or comment. Just scroll on by.

That won't take too long.

VettiyaIruken · 26/10/2020 21:22

Tsk, optimism is overrated . At least a pessimist can only be pleasantly surprised. 😁

What was the saying?
An optimist believes that we live in the best of all possible worlds and a pessimist fears that this indeed is true. 😁

Next year scares me a lot more than this one has so far what with the brexit shit show that is looming
Having said that I'm trying to stay as positive as I can and take the tiny triumphs and joys as they come. Granted there aren't too many of them but currently have an awful lot to be thankful for and I'm trying not to lose sight of that!

Facelikearustytractor · 26/10/2020 21:30

You forgot to mention Brexit OP. The good thing about COVID is it has been a distraction from the pantomime of Brexit, although that is it's only positive.

I wish Covid had happened earlier and at least then we would have come to our senses over before leaving. Now we are having to deal with both a pandemic and a no deal in the dark depths of winter. Thanks Tories.

Fatted · 26/10/2020 21:34

It's not pessimistic. It's realistic. And it's better to be realistic than naively banging the same old drum about a vaccine and "If we all just stuck to the rules.....". If there had actually been a more sensible, long term strategy for Covid and the knock on effects, we probably wouldn't have had half as much crap this year as we have.
