2021 will suck as much as 2020

SleepingStandingUp · 26/10/2020 18:58

All the 2020 sucks, this year needs to get done, being on Christmas so we can move onto next year.

But I don't think 2021 is going to be better?

We'll start it with tons of areas under Tier 3 restrictions having had a very quiet NYE.

if it hasn't come by then, England will still be anticipating a fire break, and the rest of the UK will be wondering if they'll have another one.

The economy will be shit, and everyone will be even more poor then usual by trying to compensate for everything with Christmas excess

New Year sale shopping will be torturous with SD

As we come round to the Anniversary of the first lockdown, still with lots of people dying from this and from the impact of this.

Then it'll be another Easter of linked holiday options given quarantine restrictions, then all the exam worry and that stands then all the mess over start of university/schools and that listing up the cases and then back into flu season and dark nights

I just think it's better to be realistic that 2021 will be crap too rather then thinking the midnight bells will herald some sort of pandemic salvation

@PicsInRed

This thread is absolutely roaring with the Bulldog 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

😂

Bulldogs are sweet and lazy and more likely to lick you than bite you. I never got the bulldog spirit thing.

@hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks

Next year scares me a lot more than this one has so far what with the brexit shit show that is looming Having said that I'm trying to stay as positive as I can and take the tiny triumphs and joys as they come. Granted there aren't too many of them but currently have an awful lot to be thankful for and I'm trying not to lose sight of that!
Same. I can either google suicide methods or I can try and take one day at a time. I know which I’d rather do.
Leaannb · 26/10/2020 21:42

@flaviaritt

Come on, don’t be so miserable! 😂 It will be a much better year for the majority. Vaccine on the horizon. Therapeutics improving. Hopefully Trump pulling fluff out of his bellybutton on a yacht somewhere with strong currents. It’s going to be great.
Bahahaja....Biden winning is not a sure thing. Especially when Trump is picking up numbers in critical states plus somehow Biden is losing our latinx voters. Trump can still easily win this election
LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 26/10/2020 21:43

Eh? Thought it would be over by Christmas and we could skip into the sunlit uplands on our unicorns. HmmWink

Terrace58 · 26/10/2020 21:52

It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Instead of holding out hope for an end, people need to find a way to create happiness within the restrictions.

Mammylamb: "If you liked 2020, you’ll love 2021"

@Mammylamb Ha ha ha, thanks for the recommendation! Grin

I think the vaccine will roll out by next spring/early summer, so that will be a game changer. If not, we will have partial herd immunity, gained the hard way, by next autumn. Either way, this crappy pandemic will not be dominating our lives so much in a year's time.

I'm struggling mentally right now, but am just trying to get through one day at a time. I am shortly going to be made redundant, and would love to fly away for some winter sun, but that's not a good option, due to bloody Covid. I really am hoping next year will be better.

MJMG2015 · 26/10/2020 21:56

Well, you know what they say...

'It's being so cheerful that keeps you going'

Doom merchant.

Yes dear. That's right. Nothing to worry our pretty little heads about Halloween Wink

We already have those here

Ah yes, I see they arrived in August

It'll be shite but there's always cake.

Pixxie7 · 26/10/2020 22:58

Look on the positives better treatment for Covid. Possibility of a vaccine.

One of my friends had a bulldog called Semtex who died this year and he was a big lovable idiot. I’m not even a dog person and I thought he was great.

If I’ve got any dog spirit, it’s dachshund spirit. Tetchy little buggers.

PhilSwagielka · 26/10/2020 23:03

Being serious, the country at least is better prepared than it was in spring.

ChristmasinJune · 26/10/2020 23:17

Bloody hell do you lot enjoy being miserable? Grin

I mean I do agree that things won't be magically better on Jan 1st

However:

It's likely that we'll start to see a vaccine being rolled out which will cheer us up even if we're not head of the queue.

The weather will slowly start to improve and the days will get lighter.

We'll get better at treating it so the death rate will fall.

Brexit will be a major PITA but trade will get back to a degree of normality after a month or two of chaos.

In short, it'll slowly improve as the year goes on, plus you'll have all the lovely surprises that life throws at you in amongst the gloom.... try to stay positive!

everythingisginandroses · 26/10/2020 23:21

@ChristmasinJune stop spoiling their fun, they love it! Grin

Unsure33 · 26/10/2020 23:34

Lots of research into covid , better treatments etc has been happening in the background. Just because you don’t see it in the daily fail does not mean it’s not happening.

The vaccine is close , plus faster testing . There are tests out there but the are not quite as accurate as the current one , but the saliva test is hopefully being released soon . Plus a very clever man has invested a 30 second blood test that gets analysed on your phone . The government has given him half the funding and he is crowdfunding the rest . That means you could test yourselves before visiting elderly relatives etc .

We have had a horrendous year and I think 2021 can only get better. Even with brexit .

SleepingStandingUp · 27/10/2020 00:08

@WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere

I think we need to get realistic about this, stop pretending that everything will be normal soon. Case in point: GCSE exams. They should have been cancelled instead of this pretence that it’ll all be fine, which will just cause stress and anguish when it’s not all fine and smooth sailing. 2021 will not be normal, let’s plan accordingly instead of being disappointed.
This is it, or isn't about being miserable and assuming no one will ever be happy ever again. But I think all this pretending 2021 will be fine is going to mean some people into a much worse place mentally when it's not. Covid won't disappear. Brexit will screw us. Trump will be still be dicking about on his throne. I bet he has one. He seems the type to have had one installed

Amazon won't deliver me a unicorn. Apparently they've got the Unicorn involved and are refusing nasal swabs. Bloody over-excited horses any way

I've voted YABU.
Yeah, it's shit with all these restrictions.
What is the point in your attitude though?
I'm taking it one day at a time.
Just doing now.
No point in getting all blurgh about it

flirtygirl · 27/10/2020 05:49

Every year is shit....

joystir59 · 27/10/2020 05:59

We will have Brexit supply chain blues on top of CV19....

joystir59 · 27/10/2020 06:00

And the cost of living will go up

JamSarnie · 27/10/2020 06:04

Yes I think it will be the same shit as this year.

All the tiers and lockdowns just show that our governments have no idea how to implement something that is sustainable so it feels like they flailing about and will keep doing so causing more uncertainty and anxiety.

I am resigned to it. Not booking anything, not spending unnecessary apart from comfort food. Brexit will be the icing on the shit cake.
