I've changed a few details as I dont want this to be too identifying.
I have had problems with my hip for years and booked a massage last week with a local therapist. It's a new business and I've been once before and they were brilliant, best massage I've ever had and really helped my pain.
I arrived and was told they had a new member of staff who would be doing my massage. He seemed very chatty right from the off, said his english wasn't great but he was learning.
The massage was great as before, however unlike the previous time this man talked a LOT, asked questions about my condition, giving advice etc which was fine and he was very knowledgeable. But somehow he started talking about families and asked if I was married. This turned into an incredibly uncomfortable series of questions about whether I'd ever had an affair, whether my ex husband had, why I hadn't forgiven him and that I should have stayed married for my children. He then proceeded to tell me about how many affairs he'd had, how he avoids being caught, how his wife doesn't mind as long as he keeps quiet about it.
I was so shocked that I just stopped engaging and I think he then realised he was being inappropriate. I felt extremely vulnerable as I had my clothes off for the massage, so at the time I just wanted him to shut up and finish.
I paid the female owner at the front desk afterwards and refused another appointment. I then emailed the business the next day to complain.
Both the massage staff who work there are male and not from the UK and it was clear there was both language and cultural differences. But please tell me I'm not BU to expect not to be asked about such personal matters during a professional treatment.
