Lighthearted.

Dh working today and its pissing it down here so I thought I'd suggest a film to watch with ds 6 as a treat. We decided on E.T after I explained the basic plot and that E.T was a "goodie" alien. All good.

10mins in and ds delares that its the creepiest thing hes ever seen and asks for an alternative.
Its a classic! How can anyone not love E.T? A.i.b.u?

YANBU at all

StanfordPines · 24/10/2020 16:13

I recall showing my year 5 class ET as an end of term treat.
Never knew one child calls another ‘penis breath’ in it.

AllPlayedOut · 24/10/2020 16:13

YABU. I hate that film.

stackemhigh · 24/10/2020 16:14

Loved it as a kid but can’t watch it now.

AriesTheRam · 24/10/2020 16:18

Ah yes penis breath. We never got that far in luckily

He’s right, ET is an all-out creep

Sunnydaysstillhere · 24/10/2020 16:19

firstimemamma · 24/10/2020 16:21

Yanbu, I love that film!

AriesTheRam · 24/10/2020 16:22

My dd is in her 30's and is still creeped out by Edward Scissorhands!!

AdditionalCharacter · 24/10/2020 16:29

Aged 40, and I still have nightmares about ET after watching it as a child. The Sky (?) Christmas advert last year was horrifying.

LockdownLump · 24/10/2020 16:29

I've always found it a bit boring tbh.

missmouse101 · 24/10/2020 16:31

6 is very young indeed for it. I agree it's too scary at that age but a great film for older children.

I was 7 when I saw it in the cinema and loved it. I had an ET lunch box with matching flask. I also loved ET biscuits which chock full of not yet banned colourings.
freezedriedromance · 24/10/2020 16:41

I never saw the appeal, always thought it was just a bit shit

Phillipa12 · 24/10/2020 16:44

My 6 year old loves it but then his names Elliott. My 5 year old also loves it because Elliotts real name is Henry Thomas......his name!

Hotchocolatesforeveryone · 24/10/2020 16:45

Its a classic, I love it and my kids do too! Including my 6 year old. Mind you my kids love Coraline and various other creepy things so I suppose its all down to the child.

PocahontasMcGinty · 24/10/2020 16:46

Another one who hates it here and its started my lifelong fear of aliens.

You can't get away from the fucker, he's everywhere

They are coming to our planet to take "samples"
ET is leathery. His neck stretches. His creepy glowing finger. His horrible belly slapping on his feet.

And worst of all. ET was a child. There are big giant ones in the ship

shudder

jay55 · 24/10/2020 16:46

I'm always surprised when Drew Barrymore is told to run a bath while her mum goes out and leaves her home alone.

Brighterthansunflowers · 24/10/2020 16:46

I hate it on principle because it’s my initials and I’ve always had people comment on it

JorisBonson · 24/10/2020 16:46

I'm 35 and shit scared of ET. I've never successfully watched the film.

AriesTheRam · 24/10/2020 16:48

@missmouse101 he wasn't scared he just didn't like the look of him iykwim

Yanbu - my favourite film ever, still makes me cry!
Can't wait to watch it with DD but at 3 she might be a bit young

I've never thought of the giant ones! How giant are we talking? Can they peer into my bedroom window?

The bit that affects me the most is when he is in the river all discoloured 🤢

GNfan · 24/10/2020 22:37

Going off at a tangent... I've been watching The Haunting of Bly Manor. Funny to see Elliot all grown up!
