Kids sent home to isolate but going out

mollyandmcdonalds · 23/10/2020 10:29

I'm sat in Costa coffee. So far I've seen three groups of people, all with school age children, coming in and sitting down for a drink.

I obviously don't know the story for each, but AIBU to think that if kids are sent home from school to self isolate, they shouldn't be going out for a drink/shopping with their parents?

Er, lots of schools in my area have teacher training days today so YABVU to assume these children should be isolating.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/10/2020 10:31

Are they on 1/2 term?

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/10/2020 10:31

My neighbours kids are home today so I’m assuming schools have an inset day.

FreeAcorns · 23/10/2020 10:32

First day of half term here. Broke up yesterday. Some schools broke up the day before.

lazylinguist · 23/10/2020 10:32

Yep, what pp said. My dc are off today - INSET day at their school.

CeramicGuineaPig · 23/10/2020 10:32

Yep, Inset day here for DS1, we will be going up the town later. We may even go to Costa!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 23/10/2020 10:32

Inset or half term or home schooled. Some schools are having a 2 week half term.

Comefromaway · 23/10/2020 10:36

Ds breaks up from college today but it was obvious when dropping him off that the high school next door was on an INSET day.

My neice actually broke up on Wednesday.

Dd's half term is this week & she goes back on Tuesday.

mollyandmcdonalds · 23/10/2020 10:37

I did say IF.

No schools around here finish until today.

Schools should read the government guidance and stop sending children home to self isolate when they do not need to.

The children only need to isolate if a member of their household or support bubble has symptoms or has tested positive. Or if they have been told to by track and trace. They do not need to isolate because somebody else in school has symptoms or tested positive and school said so.

And as said perhaps it is a training day.

MootingMirror · 23/10/2020 10:38

I think it's weird that you know the term times of all your local schools tbh

How do you know?

Ds's college sent an email round to parents on Wednesday night saying that half term was being extended. Unless you personally have children at all of the schools in your area you can't possibly know.

Givemeabreak88 · 23/10/2020 10:39

How do you know they are sent home to self isolate. I was told to not bring my child in today as she was crying yesterday and school Confused

You do realise that schools consult directly with PHE (in England) when they have a confirmed Covid case and then PHE tell them exactly which students to send home? Schools aren't making up guidelines on their own. We had an outbreak in our school and they contact PHE, we all send our seating plans to SLT. PHE decide who goes and who stays.

Also, how on earth do you expect track and trace to know which students have been near the confirmed case? No one under 16 is supposed to have the app.

My son is currently isolating for 14 days because a boy in his class has tested positive. Is this not the right thing to do?

Flowers94 · 23/10/2020 10:56

Our schools have been on half term this week and next, so they may be on half term

It is ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do. PP is talking out of her arse.
Thisisneverending · 23/10/2020 11:07

My sons school is on half term this week and next. The only school in my town that are having 2 weeks.

BrumBoo · 23/10/2020 11:08

Unless you have children in that specific school, then I'm afraid your really dont know if they're SI or not. I know of at least one school in my local area that shut a day early for kids for reasons around Covid but not due to a specific outbreak. Those kids are not under isolation rules, they've just been 'lucky' to have an extra day of half term. It was decided at the last minute, from my understanding. Other schools have decided to do similar, but the week after half term ends.

Frazzled2207 · 23/10/2020 11:11

If they are self isolating then no they should not be in Costa coffee.
But loads of reasons why they might not be. I know at least 2 schools locally who while officially not on HT have had to close early due to staff absences.

toptreeroots1 · 23/10/2020 11:12

Inset day here

notso · 23/10/2020 11:12

I obviously don't know the story for each ...
This is your answer, you have no idea why they're out and about so why would you just assume they should be isolating?
