Cat stuck up chimney - what do I do?

Sorry - it's not aibu but I was hoping anyone had good advice. Gas fire with a chimney - cat has gone up and is on shelf thing. I can't reach her. Do they escape by themselves? Who would I call to move fire - gas engineer, fireman?

Once had a foster dkitten get stuck. Had to ring fire brigade..

AmandaHoldensLips · 22/10/2020 08:45

I'd start with the RSPCA. They often have advice.

AmandaHoldensLips · 22/10/2020 08:47

If the cat got in there, it can probably get out on its own. Depends whether it wants to. Anything to do with moving a gas appliance you need a Corgi-registered gas engineer.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 22/10/2020 08:49

Is it crying or showing signs of distress? If not, try not to worry. Place food and water somewhere the cat can see or smell it.

wowfudge · 22/10/2020 08:49

Try tempting it out with some treats - I'd actually leave it for a while with no audience and see if it comes out of its own accord.

cushioncovers · 22/10/2020 08:49

Is this the first time she's done this? Has she done it before but you just haven't noticed?

CurlsLDN · 22/10/2020 08:50

Dreamies, always the answer to getting a cat to move

Alexandernevermind · 22/10/2020 08:50

Can she get down if the fire is removed? If so gas engineer.

IamMaz · 22/10/2020 08:51

Corgi registered!!! Grin

Actually it's gas safe now...

BobsyerUncleFannysyerAunt · 22/10/2020 08:55

Id leave her for a bit., you could just drive her further up if you try to get her down . Cats are very good at finding their way out
Put her favourite food near the chimney

MogHog · 22/10/2020 08:57

Bowl of tuna near the opening where she got in and leave the room....she will be down in no time

Bluesheep8 · 22/10/2020 09:02

Rattle those dreamies she'll be down in no time. What type of fire is in the fireplace?

ThisTooShallPassHopefully · 22/10/2020 09:04

One of my cats used to regularly sit up on a little shelf type thing in the chimney. Dont worry, she will be able to get out.
Bit of advice though, cover anything that is precious or non wipeable before she comes out. Mine was covered in soot and made an almighty mess. Once I tried to wash her in the kitchen sink. Just the once mind, cos I learned my lessonBlush.

We don't use the fire much, so we blocked it up between uses, to prevent her going up there.

PicaK · 22/10/2020 10:39

Thank you so much. You were right she got out by herself. So relieved. Thank you everyone.

MissKittyCat · 22/10/2020 15:06

This happened when I got a new cat. I left him alone with food at the bottom hoping he would came down. I found him later in the garden so he must have gone all the way up and out the top and then off the roof! Shock

BertieBotts · 22/10/2020 15:08

If her name isn't Sweep/Sooty/Poppin I think she needs a new name :o

Bluesheep8 · 22/10/2020 16:04

Or Mary?

Derekhello · 23/10/2020 19:10

Glad she got out safely 🐈
