To want everyone to know the names of the MPs who voted against feeding hungry children?

Remember Marcus Rashford and his campaign to extend free school meals? Yesterday all but a handful of Tory MPs voted against extending free school meals over the school holidays until Easter 2021. You can see if your MP is amongst them here: votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/896#noes

Whatever your thoughts on what parents should be doing some children are going to go hungry. Why punish the children because of the sins of the parent? And remember most people on benefits are in work.

Plus there is a bloody pandemic. We’re in unprecedented times. People who were just about managing are now on the bones of their arse.

We have billions to spaff up the wall on a useless test and trace system, or useless Ppe but we can’t feed a few hungry kids. And le’t not forget that the MPs voting against this get subsidised meals and can claim for their food on expenses.

'Oh, that is nice of you.'

Why the sarcasm w3, hmm? I was asked if I thought government should pay for kids meals and I said yes while we are in this current situation and income is reduced/unreliable.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/10/2020 10:41

Labour party were a fucking shambles in
the election - they handed the victory to the Tories with a tone deaf campaign that held their usual voters in contempt. Despite that, I still voted Labour and I've just written to my Tory MP to tell him exactly what I think of his vote.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/10/2020 10:42

'Unsurprisingly, my disgusting waste of skin local MP is on there.I am horrified (but not all that surprised) that the Children’s & Health ministers voted ‘no’. Foul human beings. I don’t know how they sleep at night.'

Lovely. No witchhunt or pitchforks on here oh noooo..

weepingwillow22 · 22/10/2020 10:42

@Mumoftwoyoungkids

My (Tory) MP isn’t on there! Does that mean he defied the government and voted for it??

I am actually quite surprised (I always thought he was a bit of a dick) and strangely proud!

It probably means he abstained. Only 5 tories voted in support. They are listed in the first tab on the link.
Sobeyondthehills · 22/10/2020 10:43

My MP voted against, despite the fact that local food banks are reporting that use of them are 3 times higher than last year, but donations are much lower.

I wish I could say I am surprised, but I am not,

Devlesko · 22/10/2020 10:44

What do you expect from Tories?

Mine is predictably on there. He’s a wanker.
They all are, it's not a surprise.
Speaks volumes of those who vote for them, nobody very nice and caring would.

HartnellAvenue · 22/10/2020 10:45

@mrshoho

On top of the 26k in office expenses they already get, MPs were given an additional 10k to cover additional costs for working in a pandemic. And apparently the rules were relaxed so that they don't have to provide evidence (I take it that means receipts) of their purchases. Other changes include the removal of the limit on the costs of single items. Amazing how these emergency changes can be put in place instantly. Quite disgusting.
Those extra expenses were to pay for their staff to be set up working from home.
echt · 22/10/2020 10:46

What a bunch of cunts.

That should be the collective term.

Tories too. Quelle surprise.

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 22/10/2020 10:47

MPs can’t spend those staff budgets on themselves

GetOffYourHighHorse · 22/10/2020 10:47

'Speaks volumes of those who vote for them, nobody very nice and caring would.'

I'm very nice and caring thanks. The alternative was terrorist loving Jezza and shambolic side kick Abbott.

DynamoKev · 22/10/2020 10:48

Proportional representation needs to be a thing. It won't be, but it should be.
Agreed.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 22/10/2020 10:49

Tories disgust me.

Sooverthemill · 22/10/2020 10:49

I grew I'm fucking furious that my shit MP ( Theresa coffee) has yet again voted against children and for poverty. But what can I do? I live in a staunchly conservative area. I write to her about every bloody issue and she gives me an anodyne formulaic response

BeBraveAndBeKind · 22/10/2020 10:49

Knew without even looking that mine would be on that list. I used to live in an area with a really decent and principled MP. I miss that.

MikeEhrmantraut · 22/10/2020 10:49

My MP is on there. After lots of photo opps of him "helping" out at the local food bank and fundraising.

He's also married to Dido Harding...Confused

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 22/10/2020 10:49

Mine also voted against. This was a local FB post from her about the issue. In their minds at least, it clearly isn't black and white.

AllesAusLiebe · 22/10/2020 10:50

@ClaireP20 I'm with you on this one. I don't understand why this is needed during the school holidays. I completely supported it during the lockdown when kids would have been in school under normal circumstances.

I don't think that the government is largely out of step with public opinion on this one. If there was money to be spent on free school meals, I'd rather it was spent on supporting people with or without kids who are suffering economic hardship.

If I was a single person struggling to pay the bills after having my hours cut/furlough/losing my job, I wouldn't be thrilled at being asked to pay for school meals during the holidays.

toomanypillows · 22/10/2020 10:50

My arsehole MP (Ben Bradley) was incredibly vocal about this on Twitter, so he was always going to vote against.
His reason was that it makes people too dependent on govt for help.

But then he's a racist prick as well.

A few years ago he got into trouble for saying that "chavs ought to have vasectomies" to decrease the surplus population, so I suppose he does at least have convictions. Even though those convictions are heartless and abhorrent.

He prides himself on being "the first blue brick in the red wall" which may be a typo 😂😂

No it wasn't. Also it's a pretty poor justification for voting for a nasty uncaring bunch of bastards to just cite "but the others are worse"

Also - this news for you. Jezza spent time with terrorists back in the day. So did Mrs Thatcher.
Thatcher then lied through her teeth about it and Jezza didn't.

CallieJones · 22/10/2020 10:50

They're the anti child party. Rise in child poverty over the last 10 years. School funding cuts. Widowed parents allowance cut, despite the deceased parents paying NI/tax but will never claim a pension. Poor treatment and vilifying of teachers contributing to teacher shortages. Allowing unqualified teachers. Cutting school transport. Cutting child mental health provision and SEN provision. Squandering of money on brexit which will damage children's future and has increased racism. What do we expect though when Boris called the children of single mothers 'ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate"

Sobeyondthehills · 22/10/2020 10:50

Also, to me its not about everyone getting them, its about those in lockdown who can't work, only getting 90% (if that) of their wages.

When you are struggling on 100% wage, what chance do you have on 90%, something has to be cut eventually, what do you pick? Gas, electric, rent, council tax or food.

Even if you take away mobile phones, internet, tv license, if you are not on a contract, it can still be a struggle to survive and if you are on pay as you go meters for gas and electric, I can honestly say that the companies don't seem to give a shit.

W3dontdoduvets · 22/10/2020 10:52

Tory-scum is deserved. How can they sleep.

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/10/2020 10:53

Tories disgust me

Were the others any better Confused

Labour actively told people they didnt want them, and the lib dems , well....

Both were prepared to sacrifice children's safety and well being for the woke vote ajd threw several staff members under the bus

Rapunzathepenguin · 22/10/2020 10:53

@JonHammIsMyJamm I asked a Tory that once, and their response was, "On a big fat pile of money". And no, they weren't joking.

Surely nobody is really surprised at the way the vote went, in an 80+ Tory majority government, which pretty much gives them carte blanche to do and say whatever the eff they want, and whatever they might personally think or feel about whether kids should get free school meals through the summer as well?

I don't have many Tory friends any more (I never had all that many anyway, strangely enough) as I can't bring myself to even look at them. This is due to their effectively announcing to the world in December that they're just fine with this treatment of the poor, old, disabled, and disenfranchised. (Even when that description sometimes includes them.) And they've continued to show their true colours over COVID-19, Rasputin the SpAD in chief, Lockdown, Brexit, and dozens of other situations. I swear the Tories could drive an army tank through their living room, killing their nearest and dearest and destroying the walls, infect them with Ebola, whip the clothes from their backs, and their supporters would STILL insist they were the best thing to ever happen to the planet since sliced bread.

Unfortunately I can't do anything about my neighbours or other residents of the town where we live - we still have a Tory MP despite it being a very poor part of the county (although VERY popular with those in safe-as-houses well-paid jobs in 3 or 4 major cities nearby). It sticks in my throat every time I see his smug, self-satisfied face (and that of his equally ghastly wife) in the press. I know without looking how he'll have voted.

SnakesOrLadders · 22/10/2020 10:54

Yes my local mp on here and lots of nearby boroughs too - one mp I work with on a regular basis 😔
Can anyone tell me any of the arguments against pls
