AIBU to be surprised my covid19 test has come back negative when my wifes test on monday came back positive, we had no way to stay away from each other because we have a small house!

Lots of false negatives. Or you have managed to avoid a high enough viral load. Or it's still too early to show for you.

GinnieHempstock · 21/10/2020 14:44

She just hasn’t given it to you yet. Stay in isolation and wait and see.

sirfredfredgeorge · 21/10/2020 14:45

No, this is quite normal, you are very possibly still incubating, you probably just wasted a test.

lanthanum · 21/10/2020 14:46

You wouldn't necessarily get it at the same time. If she got it at the weekend, you could be coming down with in the next day or two, and that wouldn't have shown on a test yet.
Did/do you have symptoms?

19lottie82 · 21/10/2020 14:47

One of my coworkers got a positive result. He lives at home with his parents and sister, they were all negative.

She started getting symptoms last wednesday, so its been a week since then, also it was my work that pushed for me to get a test done, i just assumed because she has it i will too

It’s quite possible. Dh had Covid, the rest of us didn’t. I developed symptoms 10 days later & received negative result. GP asked me to repeat it as I’m on immunosuppressants & that was also negative. She said unlikely that they were false negatives.

ImAncient · 21/10/2020 14:50

My symptoms were cough, sore throat & temperature- same as dh.

ChasingRainbows19 · 21/10/2020 14:51

You still will have to isolate for 14 days as you can come down with symptoms. You might be lucky not catch it and develop it but you still have a week to go....

Same thing happened to my mum. My dad was positive, she had symptoms and test came back negative. Retested a few days later and it was positive

Wowthisisreal · 21/10/2020 14:55

If you hadn't developed symptoms then you shouldn't have had a test. You probably haven't caught it yet. It can take a while for you to catch and then the incubation period means you may not get symptoms immediately.

I know someone who lived in house with fellow students everyone else showed symptoms and tested positive. He had no symptoms and ended his 14 day isolation, 2 days later got a sore throat and a cough and got a test - positive!! He's very frustrated he has to do another two weeks.

I know another family who are currently isolating after DC 1 & 2 showed symptoms, DS 1 negative, DS 2 positive and mum and DD got symptoms 4 days later and are still awaiting results. DH no symptoms yet.

Merryoldgoat · 21/10/2020 15:32

But you tested before you had symptoms - or am
I reading your posts incorrectly.

My understanding is (happy to be corrected) that you can be positive and asymptomatic, but if you’ve had a known contact you need to isolate until you’re clear or you develop symptoms for a test.

Your wife was positive, presumably after getting symptoms. You tested at the same time but Without symptoms it gives you no clarity since you’ve been close to a confirmed case.
