To spend literally all day on mumsnet?

Day off. Could be being productive, creative, relaxing with good films and books. Planting shit, going for bike ride. Meeting friend.

Nope. Instead I'm eating crisps and hanging around mumsnet and have been since this morning. Cant see myself dragging myself away until about 5pm at which point I'll probably watch some First Dates (making my way through all seasons).

I'm a loser arent I?

I’ve been doing this too much recently and hating myself for it.

Dawnlassie · 21/10/2020 11:42

Nobody spends 'literally' all day on mumsnet. Literally all day means 24 hours. WTF is with this obsession of using literally when you dont mean literally.

CutToChase · 21/10/2020 11:43

@Dawnlassie
I quite literally have, bar a quick side swipe over to FB every now and then

Dawnlassie · 21/10/2020 11:44

So you have been up from midnight until now on mumsnet?

araiwa · 21/10/2020 11:44

I'm sure there is help available for addictions

CutToChase · 21/10/2020 11:46

I take day to mean the time bracketed by the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep

tigerbear · 21/10/2020 11:49

Same OP, I’m here all the time.
It is an addiction.

Marisishidinginmyattic · 21/10/2020 12:19

I’m impressed because I’m on here a lot atm and I think it moves verrrrry slowly on here nowadays. How do you find enough stuff on here to entertain you for so long?

Harmarsuperstar · 21/10/2020 12:22

I often do this. It's an addiction/compulsion and it's no good for me tbh. I need to stop

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/10/2020 12:29

I see quite a few posters that seem to comment on every single thread I'm on whatever time of day it is eg Bluntness so you're not the only one OP.

Destinysdaughter · 21/10/2020 12:31

You're not alone OP!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/10/2020 12:41

@Dawnlassie

I agree but unfortunately language continually evolves and now it is ...

'used for emphasis while not being literally true.'

It's far from 'well good' isn't it?

Audreyseyebrows · 21/10/2020 12:44

@Dawnlassie you’re like soooo literal. Literally literal Wink

Dawnlassie · 21/10/2020 13:07

I take day to mean the time bracketed by the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep

Yes thats fine. Its reasonable to take 'all day' to mean the time you wake up until the time you go to bed.

however thats not the same as literally all day. There are 24 hours in a day. Literally all day means 24 hours.

In case you were not aware 'literally' means the strict meaning of the word or words; by way of fact.

Dawnlassie · 21/10/2020 13:09

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Agreed. I dont understand why people tend to add random words for impact when they dont understand how they change a sentence.

Chocolatehobnob9 · 21/10/2020 13:16

@DDIJ love this answer!

ZaraW · 21/10/2020 13:21

YABU all the things you could be doing sound much more enjoyable.

Greentea93 · 21/10/2020 13:27

The internet in general is addictive- I set myself a timer like tea break and a 15 mins scroll and then walk away from your phone

ClaudiaWankleman · 21/10/2020 13:32

Step away from your device @Dawnlassie

They’re not actually random words. They’re words chosen from a specific personal vocabulary. A random word would be one chosen without a conscious thought process.

MarinPrime · 21/10/2020 13:38

That's a lot of screen time. Do you have trouble sleeping?
My limit's an hour total on the internet, any longer I get migraines and feel dizzy.

Lazysundayafternoons · 21/10/2020 13:44

An unproductive day off is needed once in a while.
(Hoping first dates is on Netflix so I can watch it all too)

dottiedodah · 21/10/2020 13:47

Been on all morning as pouring here ATM! Normally do chores /take dog out and jump on later .Used to like watching This Morning but prefer here instead now!

Lexilooo · 21/10/2020 13:47

@Dawnlassie 24 hours would be "literally all day and all night" not just all day.
