to have been annoyed by this telephone consultation?

I have an incurable disease which requires regular IV meds and procedures to monitor.

Specialist nurse called me recently with an update on a procedure I had, biopsies taken etc

During the whole telephone consultation there was notification sounds going off, presume these were on a pc. I felt the nurse wasn’t fully engaged with me as she was reading these notifications! You can tell when someone is half talking/half reading and tbh it felt like the whole consultation was rushed.

I’ll be having a consultation with the consultant soon so hopefully that will go a bit better.

AIBU that if this is the future, telephone consultations should be as professional as F2F, in fact more so.

I agree OP, it's really annoying when someone is only half engaging, my mum does it because she's always on her phone, I imagine it's even more annoying when it's health related!

@ConorMasonsWife think it’s just you and me who are bothered by this GrinWink

Was she doing it through Teams? Some calls are made through it, not just video ones. And then my laptop pings when messages arrive from other Teams notifications which I can't/ don't know how to turn off without muting the chat I am part of.
There may be other people in the same office which can be distracting too.
But yes it is annoying.
In future could you ask her to repeat back to you what you have said (in a nice way), saying that you might have forgotten to mention something. Or ask for an email summary of the consultation?

I had a video consultation with a podiatrist last week, I could hear telephones ringing and her colleagues chatting away in the background, she also asked me to hang on a second whilst she rejected a phone call.

I found it really unprofessional and also distracting. Surely these calls should be made in private? Seeing as they start off by asking you to confirm your address and DOB.
