AIBU to be sad that she worried over her hair?

2018 pic shared on facebook, let's call her Friend1 (although her real name's Sophie), a lovely pic of Friend1 and her mum. Friend1 adds 3 messages:
Oh god my hair
Why is my hair so long
why didn't someone tell me to get my hair cut
Friend one is 22, her self obsessing comments saddened me (only slightly. Perhaps frustrated too). AIBU to feel like rolling my eyes for half an hour? Has anyone grown out of this, and can see how they used to be? It was such a lovely pic, I added a message: "I think you mean "oh what a lovely pic of me and mum""
I know another person who obsesses over her appearance - the most popular girl in the pub - funny and pretty, but hates herself and her appearance. Can they mature out of it, or they're a wreck forever?

I suspect they are fishing for compliments!

Keep your nose out Hmm what a bitchy comment to make

Captnip500 · 20/10/2020 13:39

I don’t know if that’s likely to be fishing for compliments. It could be but it could be that she is insecure about her looks.

I have seen pictures of me on Facebook and instantly thought ‘the state of me there!’ I might have even commented that once or twice. It’s not out of vanity or shallowness in my case, I just think I look shit in pictures and don’t always think I am that beautiful in general.

In my experienced people who are ‘obsessed’ with their looks are often insecure rather than narcissistic.

Unfortunately an awful lot of the younger generation seems to be completely obsessed with how they look, and I don't think they'll grow out of it, it will just get worse.

JuliaJohnston · 20/10/2020 13:42

The most popular girl in the pub?!

Teirsforfears · 20/10/2020 13:47

Umm what!?

slashlover · 20/10/2020 14:10

Surely everyone looks at older photos of themselves and wonders what they were thinking?

Also, what was the point of calling her 'Friend1' and then stating her name anyway?

AIBU to feel like rolling my eyes for half an hour?

Yes. You really, really are over three FB comments.

JuliaJohnston · 20/10/2020 14:12

let's call her Friend1 (although her real name's Sophie)
🤣🤣🤣

PlanDeRaccordement · 20/10/2020 14:12

Both of you are being reasonable. Most people don’t like how they look in photos, that’s why filters are so popular. And yes, it is also annoying when a very attractive person is whining about their appearance in a photo.

AriettyHomily · 20/10/2020 14:12

You sound mature.

Lolwhat · 20/10/2020 15:38

You sound like a joy, the most popular person in the pub🤣 Christ

GoldfishParade · 20/10/2020 15:44

Why didnt you just call her sophie

Confused
myhobbyisouting · 20/10/2020 15:51
