AIBU to be shocked that this isn't common knowledge?

If you go to the pub, or a restaurant, you're not supposed to mix households, or be outside your bubble.

I thought this was all pretty clear - you distance from anyone not in your bubble. 2 metres, or 1 metre with screens, masks or something similar.

And I haven't bothered with the pub or whatever because what's the fun in waving at people from behind a screen. But that's not what people are doing is it? They're sharing tables with friends and getting Covid. Even though it's illegal, and the pub/restaurant can be closed down for it.

I thought the people going out were mostly just eating in a different set of walls with their household - or the posturing mask debaters who tell us it's just a sniffle - but I was honestly shocked on another thread that this isn't common knowledge. How many people are breaking the law?

I agree. But it is guidance, not law, so nothing that anyone can do to require the distancing. There are some places where it is possible to sit at a table and keep at least 1m. Some people are at least sensible and limiting who they see. Others unfortunately seem to be out dining and for drinks with different people several times a week or in some cases a day

Wtaf. Are yous actually doing this shit. Jesus wept. It’s a flu, coronavirus is a flu with a 99.99% recovery rate

happybunny03 · 21/10/2020 04:19

It’s not clearly stated that the group of 6 needs to be socially distanced if they are from different households/support bubbles. If it’s not clearly stated then it won’t be common knowledge and people won’t follow it.

Generally, I am not sure why the govt has made the rules so complex to follow. The 6 person rule in particular seems so arbitrary. Can’t they at least provide the rationale behind why they picked this number??

Luddite26 · 21/10/2020 04:40

The Goverment threw in the Rule of Six quango to bring herd immunity back into the equation by the back door.
It wasn't stated that a group of 6 had to socially distance. They are allowed to meet up in a pub still in tier 1. They never said social distancing had to happen in the group of 6. But no mingling was allowed with anybody out of the group of 6 with others in a pub. Just making slogans up as they go along.
What a shit show.

theviewfromhalfwaydown · 21/10/2020 06:29

I know about the social distancing rules but it’s quite often not possible in pubs and restaurants.

I am going to be meeting up with some work colleagues for a pub lunch soon and to be honest couldn’t care less about social distancing from them as we spend our days squashed together in a warm classroom performing two person personal care with no face masks. So don’t see what difference sitting in a pub together makes as I probably have more time within two metres of them than I do my own children.

Summerisdone · 21/10/2020 07:11

Tier 1 is allowed to mix households in an indoor setting so long as there’s only 6 maximum. There’s no rules on no mixing of a household in pubs and restaurants until you hit Tier 2.

I think the number of people actually being responsible and following the rules are few and far between.

The rules seem to be randomly picked out of a hat and let's face it - less than clear and get muddier with every up date.

Loads have given up and loads never cared. Which is why we are still in a flippin mess!

Hardbackwriter · 21/10/2020 10:27

Again, people are mixing up law and guidance, with unhelpful terms like 'rules'.

Social distancing at all times is government guidance. It's also government guidance that people eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and do 150 minutes of exercise a week - are you equally shocked that people don't follow that, too? That's also there to reduce pressure on the NHS and save lives...

bonbonours · 21/10/2020 10:46

I've met with my book group round a large table and we all sat back a bit from the table so I reckon we were 2m apart. But yes, most restaurant tables wouldn't allow for that.

@hardbackwriter brilliant 👏 What a good way to think of it!

That rule of 6 sounds like a great title for a book. I’m thinking a psychological thriller set in a cabin in a wood.

As you were.

Abraid2 · 21/10/2020 17:35

Sherlock Holmes or John Buchan.

Joodleoodle · 23/10/2020 20:57

TBH I am so confused by rule of 6 and tiers that we just stay home or go to my cousin's house (support bubble) if we are not working.

Otot · 24/10/2020 18:56

I would like to add:
AIBU to be shocked that someone still say Covid 19 has a higher recovery rate, say 99.99%, like flu.

That's one of the reason why infected is getting more and more. The confirmed case is around 42M, death is 1.1M, ie 2.7% death rate. Don't forget, most of people in far east wearing mask daily, impose social distancing, frequently disinfection. Otherwise, the death rate will be higher.

I was thinking of an idea for a sci-fi book earlier today based on the pandemic where the entire world's leaders agreed to enforce a lockdown at the exact same time and the Covid virus died out as there were no more hosts to infect. People worked together to ensure the vulnerable to had enough essentials for the lockdown. There was a countdown on the main social media platforms. Also drones were sent to every corner of the world to disinfect the land as the people isolated. The future generations looked back at this time as the moment when the human race battled together to defeat a common enemy........🤣 yeah I think I've watched too many movies lol! (Of course then a film is made based on my book & I live off the royalties forever Wink)

Sorry carry on pps......

I know two people who regularly go to a bar and say they social distance and wear their masks. I always doubted this as you can’t wear a mask when sitting smoking and drinking. They broke their bubbles as mixing with over 20 households each and even though you aren’t allowed to they were entering the houses too! They ended up tested positive and spreading it. Turns out the staff were positive at times too!! I think its a real dick move to go to a bar or restaurant, they do not sanitise the tables and chairs for example so when you move you could be sitting on a Covid-19 hotseat!! This is why hospitality and schools have been closed in Northern Ireland for 3 weeks, take aways only. Many other parts of the country and Southern Ireland have made the same wise decision
