To not want to throw away my old dirty Converse?

I've had these at least six years and I live in them. They've been through the wash many a time but clearly it's not working anymore! So I bought some new ones but I can't bear the thought of throwing my old ones away, they're so comfy and easy to chuck on. AIBU to not want to get rid of them or do they look bloody disgusting and you would scoff if you saw someone wearing such dirty shoes out in public? Grin

Quick soak with some Ace and bicarb then chuck them in the wash, you’ll be surprised how clean they come up!

PurpleDandelions · 18/10/2020 22:47

Buy new laces and wear the comfy old ones

Rotundandhappy · 18/10/2020 22:50

Is that a Frenchie in the background??

JacobReesMogadishu · 18/10/2020 22:51

Maybe they’d go for a fortune on eBay to a shoe pervert?

Iggly · 18/10/2020 22:52

White trainers will always get dirty! I would suggest a different colour next time 😂

I wouldn’t judge though.

  1. I wear my converse until they are much more disgusting than that. 2. I find it usually only takes a few years to break in a new pair of converse. I usually have 2 pairs of converse on the go; a comfy, well-worn everyday pair and a newer pair that I wear occasionally until they become comfy. So I think there is room in your life for both pairs.
RozHuntleysStump · 18/10/2020 22:55

Sell to a perv.

That's a PS4 controller and game storage thing but it does look like a frenchie!! But funnily enough I do have my frenchie boy right next to me now doing stinky farts Grin

Should say a few wears not years.

StartingGrid · 18/10/2020 22:56

Those of you that wash yours, what cycle/temperature do you do them at, and do you put them in with other stuff? Pillowcase or something around them? I have two pairs festering I haven't abandoned just yet, may be worth a try!

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2020 22:56

My trainers are looking a bit scruffy but they're so comfy and I can't find the same ones so I'll keep them until I can find new ones that I like.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2020 22:57

Also I like your PJ'S 😂😂😂😁

converseandjeans · 18/10/2020 23:01

They look pretty clean to me. Keep them as a pair for when you might get dirty/wet feet? The other ones for best? I still have the pair I had in my first year of uni - 30 years ago.

sleepyhead · 18/10/2020 23:01

God, I must be disgusting if you think these are bad Shock. I wear mine til they get actual holes in them.

Meh, Converse are meant to look a bit beaten up imo. They're fine.

ViciousJackdaw · 19/10/2020 00:15

It's just the laces that want replacing really. If you don't have any Ace or bicarb, try Cif on the rubber areas. That should bring them up a treat.

legohouse · 19/10/2020 00:20

With Converse older the better imo

user1473878824 · 19/10/2020 00:34

Oh my god that’s your idea of dirty white converse?! Mine are literally seventy five shades dirtier than yours.

user1473878824 · 19/10/2020 00:35

I remember 15 years ago my mum washed my converse and I was angry with her for a week.
xanthippe8 · 19/10/2020 00:53

I think the "less clean" ones make your feet look smaller, this may or may not be a good thing. I'd keep them.

contactusdeletus · 19/10/2020 00:57

Dampen a Magic Eraser and use on the white rubber. Brings them up a treat!

Shaniac · 19/10/2020 00:58

Wow haha i must be a major scruff. I wear mine until the rubber literally starts ripping apart and holes become so bad they are unwearable. My current and only. Pair are very discoloand have started with the holes but should have a few years left in them i hope.

Shaniac · 19/10/2020 00:58

Discoloured lol

BritWifeinUSA · 19/10/2020 05:20

We call them Chuck Taylor’s in the US. I haven’t heard them called Converse before.

If you saw mine you’d think yours look brand new. Keep them if they are comfy.

BestZebbie · 19/10/2020 12:24

I also think yours aren't bad enough to really count as dirty old Converse yet... however if you are ready to shuffle them down a rung, can then become your new "dirty jobs" shoes? I have a pair of very very old faded black Converse that are incredibly comfy which I keep in a box in my wardrobe and only wear for things like staining the garden fence or emulsioning up a ladder: where you need shoes on but don't want to get paint on a smart pair.
