I'm not being unreasonable it's annoying I just wanted a rant and didn't no where to put it.
Dh loves designer gear just because well it's designer. Like we may need a new fridge but he doesn't want to buy that and will buy Hugo boss trainers for the same price. His socks had holes in yesterday I went ooo nearly Christmas il get you some socks joking around. With a straight face he turned around and said I don't want socks but my Ralph Lauren aftershave is running out 😑 I like nice things but I would happily buy a whole outfit with no holes then buy one item because it has a label

It's called small dick syndrome. Even if his dick isn't actually small, people like this are usually compensating for something.

Essex16 · 18/10/2020 15:35

I don’t care for designer labels but providing he is contributing to family expenses equally then surely he can’t spend his money on what he wants

OhioOhioOhio · 18/10/2020 15:35

What ZaraW said. Exactly that.

Glittertwins · 18/10/2020 15:35

Fridges aren't exactly the most interesting things to spend money on but they are rather more useful than a pair of trainers!!

Essex16 · 18/10/2020 15:36

*can spend his money!

Smallsteps88 · 18/10/2020 15:39

I’ve never understood why people pay a fortune to advertise a very rich company’s products for them. Companies are supposed to pay for advertising, not get paid to advertise their brand on your back/feet/arse.

If Ralph Lauren want me to wear their aftershave they can send me an offer.

WhoUsedMyName · 18/10/2020 15:39

Some of these did make me laugh thanks 😊 We aren't hard up I could go and buy a new fridge as could he it was more light hearted maybe I didn't type it well. He just annoys me the world could fall apart around hun but as long as he was dressed to the nines that would be ok

OP posts:
PubicMenace · 18/10/2020 15:40

He does sound like a bit of a prat Grin

Lolaloveslemonade · 18/10/2020 15:42

I'm sure most of us would prefer to be able to buy something we want rather than have to replace an appliance.. I've just spent £300 on a Lumea Prestige and I was excited to get it, I'd spend the same on a fridge but wouldn't exactly get enjoyment out of it. Just something we have to do as adults.

I really wouldn’t get ‘enjoyment’ from buying a Lumea Prestige 😂 Or am I missing something?! 😳

PardonMyFrancais · 18/10/2020 15:43

I know someone like this. Constantly showing off his new designer gear on Instagram, making out he’s much richer than he is in reality.

His wife is lovely and a good friend of mine, but I do cringe for him and wonder how she puts up with it 😂

WhoUsedMyName · 18/10/2020 15:43

I can't lie I do get a kick out of a new hoover BlushGrin

OP posts:
Lolaloveslemonade · 18/10/2020 15:43

Is he trying too hard to look well off OP?
He sounds insecure.

Lolaloveslemonade · 18/10/2020 15:44

I can't lie I do get a kick out of a new hoover
Me too! My new tumble dryer filled me with joy too!!

Janegrey333 · 18/10/2020 15:44

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay

so he stinks of aftershave, but if he has to take his shoes off, his toes are poking through his socks? Nice Hmm
Sounds quite the catch!
Bailey0703 · 18/10/2020 15:46

Best friends ex is like this. HMRC have put a charge on the marital home because he hasn't paid his tax bill for 4 years. Yet he has just bought a second hand Porche..

Sadly my best friend is not dissimilar - not two ha'pennies to rub together
most of the time but complaining her step daughter keeps using some shampoo she bought as a 'pick me up' that cost £74 !! (Fuck me id want it to turn my hair into strands of gold for that !)

... and so it goes on. The daughter demanded a Mac book pro for Uni last year because nothing else would do all the work she needed it to do as well. - She's studying dance ! ..

It's all fur coat no knickers because they live and kids have grown up in very very wealthy area of rural village south east and feel that this stuff 'validated them'. What they don't seem to realise is that our truly rich friends are more likely to have patched elbows and fairly inexpensive consumer goods. Preferring to put their money into property and investments that aren't 'on show' .

All the designer stuff is a bit crass and shows a lack of imagination. Unless genuinely buying the article because it is of excellent quality and built to last .

I would love to ask women who spend £500 in a handbag to take the pick of an array of bags without any labels and see if they could pick the most 'expensive' from the quality of workmanship alone. Because 99% of the time it's 'emperors new clothes' ..

WhoUsedMyName · 18/10/2020 15:47

Maybe I'm the odd one then. Sometimes he will buy me an expensive gift an id rather have somthing useful than flash 🤣 maybe the problem lies with me and I just don't understand the importance of an expensive but not needed item

NiceGerbil · 18/10/2020 15:48

Mine loves designer gear as well.

I say who do you think you are James fucking bond Grin

I think it's a hangover from being a teenager.

Mind you I spend £££ on skincare and like clothes from Hobbs type places so I can hardly talk Grin

Iamclearlyamug · 18/10/2020 15:48

@ZaraW

I would say insecurity as well. I have a friend who keeps going on about his new Mercedes and how he's made it. He hasn't, it's a company car and he lives in a rented flat as he could never get a mortgage as he's always in debt buying designer crap he can't afford.
@ZaraW is your friend my ex husband 😂😂😂 you’ve just described him to a T, right down to the Merc company car he’s getting in a few weeks time
user1471565182 · 18/10/2020 15:51

I want to comment negatively but I bought an axe for £120 yesterday

iklboo · 18/10/2020 15:53

@user1471565182 - yeah, but you're covered for the zompoc now aren't you? Wink

WhoUsedMyName · 18/10/2020 15:54

@user1471565182 do you have many jobs to use the axe on? Then that is fine ?
Is it gold plated? If yes that is not fine 🤣

OP posts:
user1471565182 · 18/10/2020 16:01

yeah ive been using shit axes for about 10 years now and finally nearly murdered my neighbour when the head flew off so decided to upgrade. The workmanshipn and steel quality is bloody beautiful and it has the swedish man who made its name on it which I find weirdly captivating. Not sure i'll dare use it for cutting up crappy firewood now though.

Is good workmanship an excuse? im not sure designer clothes really are any better made tbh, you take your chances with most clothes and it seems completely random what lasts and what doesnt often

user1471565182 · 18/10/2020 16:03

Always just thought id shut myself in the loft if we had a zompoc, why hasnt anybody thought of that? I wouldnt get zombie matter all over my good axe.

Londonmummy66 · 18/10/2020 16:03

There is a solution to the dilemma - a Dolce & Gabbana fridge - should be flash enough for your DH as he can guarantee that the Jonses won't have one...

PardonMyFrancais · 18/10/2020 16:11

@user1471565182 I need to see this axe!
