To ask if anyone knows why I could be getting these wounds?

Recently I’ve been a bit itchy as if I have a bite, and I’ll scratch but not massively hard or aggressively. They very quickly turn into big, sore wounds that leak fluid. I’ve got one on my leg and now one on my bum cheek (?!). Anyone know what this could be?! I can’t find much online. Would go to the GP but I don’t want to waste appointments as it’s not a huge deal

Eczema flare up?

Lanabananaaaaaa · 18/10/2020 14:08

So they start off feeling like bites as there is a bit of a bump, I end up scratching and they quickly develop into sores - almost as if my skin is paper thin.

30+ years ago I had what I thought was knat bites - they went up and along my thigh, & then along the waist line. I kept scratching, very itchy, didn't heal. Went to the company nurse who laughed & said I had shingles.

You can get shingles if you have had chicken pox, & if you are under stress/under the weather. It travels along the nerve lines. Some posters said herpes & shingles is herpes.
I would get in touch with your GP, send them a photo. It looks like what I had, but then it was 35 years or so ago. Its treatable, don't worry. xxx

It looks like eczema flare up from that picture. It horridly itchy. You need an emollient if it's that.
Also if it's following a nerve could be shingles

ChocolateCherrybomb · 18/10/2020 14:32

Have you had your blood pressure checked.

Sounds like what happened to me when I first developed high blood pressure. Water was failing to drain from the leg tissues and it causes the skin to start to break down, can be itchy and it does seem like a bumpy rash that waters if you scratch even a little bit. Was very reactionary to the trauma caused by scratching. I developed several larger ulcers but there were also lots of what looked like open small sores. I didn't get them on my buttucks but did get some above the knee on the inside of my thigh and a few on my lower stomach. They went quite quickly after blood pressure lowering meds were started.

Have you got any symptoms of poor circulation in your legs like swelling of feet and ankles or any patches of discolouration from the knee down, particularly near or on the ankles.

Any blurred vision, unexplained aches and pains around the groin or lower back. Trouble eating because your stomach feels fuller than it should for what you have eaten.

My advice if you do think it's a possibility, is to buy yourself the Omron M2 Basic Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor from Argos, £25.99. Best one I've had and doesn't cripple your arm.
Or
Get yourself to the GP.

I starting developing these on one breast OP, I literally had 6 inch ulcers on my breast. I was sent to hospital within two weeks to the oncologist with suspected cancer but they decided it wasn't cancer, they healed up and now have gone.
Neither the consultant or the dermatologist ever got to the bottom of it and I've not had one since.

Viviennemary · 18/10/2020 14:41

My first thought was Impetigo. You should see your GP.

Caroian · 18/10/2020 14:44

The picture is not hugely clear, and it’s impossible to diagnose based on one picture anyway, but both pemphigoid and pemphigus are possibilities Which ought to be checked out, as is dermatitis herpetiformis (cutaneous manifestation of gluten sensitivity). Impetigo is also possible - if you or anyone in your family is a staph carrier then a simple scratch can be an easy was for it to get in. Go and see your GP - it’s what they are there for.

Zaphodsotherhead · 18/10/2020 14:51

I am very allergic to dust mites. If I've cleared out a cupboard that's not been touched for a while I will start itching and come out in loads of bumps. If I can get into a shower pretty fast I am okay, but if I ignore it and just scratch I can open wounds on myself surprisingly quickly. Especially if I scratch in my sleep.

Have you cleared out any cupboards lately? (Incidentally it's a great reason not to have to empty the hoover...)

vanillandhoney · 18/10/2020 14:51

You need to see your GP.

HibiscusNell · 18/10/2020 14:53

I don’t think you would be wasting the doctors time if you booked an appointment. That sore looks sore!

TenThousandSteps · 18/10/2020 15:06

OP, please do contact your surgery. I have suffered horrible itchy skin with an odd rash on my legs, bum and arms and after a month of taking anti-histimine I contacted the doc. Everything was diagnosed via phone and email (I sent pics of the bad patches). They diagnosed Foliculitus and got me onto anti-biotics and anti-itch cream which has been a godsend. Am now on an anti-bacterial moisturiser as well. Haven't wasted anyone's time and didn't put anyone at risk by going into the surgery. It is possible - get it sorted out please. Your health is precious.

jessstan1 · 18/10/2020 15:10

It probably is a bite, there are still biting insects about which often appear after a rain shower. I'm particularly susceptible to insect bites. Try some insect repellant, it does work.

Don't scratch, could leave a scar! Put antiseptic on the bites, they will go and heal up.

Another possibility is you could be allergic to something. A mild antihistamine might help.

If you are really worried, seek medical advice or ask at the pharmacy (when it is open); pharmacies are very good at recommending stuff to put on stings and bites. I have loads all over the house and can never lay my hands on it when I need it!

FippertyGibbett · 18/10/2020 15:19

Eurax is great at stopping itching. Put it on unbroken skin as soon as you feel the itch. Sometimes you get into a cycle of itching/scratching.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/10/2020 15:23

Cellulitis?

Does the skin look blistered before the open sore stage?

InescapableDeath · 18/10/2020 15:24

My GP is happy for me to send photos through at the moment so try that if you don’t want an appointment straight off. I had a skin infection on my nose diagnosed that way!

Lovemusic33 · 18/10/2020 15:24

My ex husband gets this, it is a skin condition similar to eczema, he gets it on his shins and feet. I think he was given some cream from the gp for it (Not sure as we have been divorced a while 🤣). He used to bleed easily and would scratch it in his sleep.

Go to your GP, they might refer you to a skin specialist but will probably try a few creams first.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/10/2020 15:26

It's a bite.

Are you outdoors a lot or do oyu have animals who might have fleas?

Use Antisan cream, bathe in salt water, and see a pharmacist.

GinAtMerlottes · 18/10/2020 15:30

MRSA skin infection?
Definitely needs a GP visit, whatever it is.

dorispiffle · 18/10/2020 15:30

It could be anything from eczema to cutaneous PAN. I'd get a nurse appt- they triage here via a phone call and you can send images to them

NiceGerbil · 18/10/2020 15:33

Sorry got to ask, what's a ladybug?

umberellaonesie · 18/10/2020 15:36

Just for information, I get herpes on my wrists and back, buttocks.
Was diagnosed as shingles for years but when eventually swabbed was Herpes simplex virus same as a cold sore. Never had it on lips or genitals.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 18/10/2020 15:38

Have you considered covid? There's a ton of wierd-ass skin issues reported in folk testing positive. Sometimes only symptom.

AnxiousPixie · 18/10/2020 15:47

I had impetigo a while ago too, sounds exactly like it. Pharmacist recommend dettol soap, cleared it right up.
