Not getting paid while isolating

rumblefish23 · 17/10/2020 19:43

I have tested positive for vivid and so has my partner. My partner's son and girlfriend live with us so we all have to self isolate for 14 days.

The girlfriend works for a large nursery chain and they have told her she won't get paid as it's sick leave. Can they do this, I am not feeling my best after a week of covid symptoms, any help would be great.

Should be ssp according to Gov regulations.

No entitlement to full pay unfortunately.

SSP from the first day of absence.

I manage a care home. Staff generally do not get paid sick pay ( aside from ssp)
We are paying full pay for staff if they test positive for covid ( using the infection control grant we are receiving to help cover this..) and staff are receiving ssp if self isolating due to symptoms/ waiting for test results/ symptoms in the household etc.

www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay should be able to get SSP

Doesn’t the nursery pay more than ssp when sick normally?

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 17/10/2020 20:00

I'm a care worker and only got statutory sick pay when I had to self isolate. DH self employed and no work, sadly in the group entitled to no help. Trying to survive on £95 a week for a family of 4 wasn't great. I had to grit my teeth when people were moaning about being at home on 80% of their pay. The lower paid jobs seem to have the worst deal.

@EasterIssland the girlfriend isn't actually sick so this is maybe why they won't offer normal sick pay during an isolation period

Hence thwy say it’s sick leave That’s why I was asking

Ssp from first day.

I work in public sector and we pay in full. Some people are great, some take advantage. To be fair, less have taken advantage than I expected.

Maybe they don't usually pay more than SSP or are unaware that she can claim SSP for isolating. Her employer can claim the SSP back so shouldn't be out of pocket
