AIBU to cackle suffocate you evil little creatures

AIBU to cackle suffocate & die you little bastards as I treat DD hair for headlice...I'm sure they'll hear and any offspring left will be to traumatised from watching their parents/siblings die they won't come back 😉

I was unreasonable to not follow my own fucking rule which is that we always treat at least twice usually three times with the silicone based treatment as there's always so little offspring fucker probably hiding in a headlice bunker that survives the first cull and then breeds another army of the evil little bastards! This time we combed regularly and guess what she had an army of new borns in her hair today! Envy > Not envy!!!

Anyway all I can say is fucking bastards

And AIBU for whispering to them suffocate you little fuckers.

In case anyone hasn't guessed this is a light hearted thread of me venting that I broke my own fucking rule and this is why for the last 10 years I've always repeated treatments!

Or perhaps I could find a flame thrower although I think DD might object!
There's always the clippers and shave the lot off however for some reason DD isn't happy with that either so I'll just go back to suffocating them every 5 days or so and spending hours combing her hair Grin

Sympathies. I spent two and a half hours last year combing them out of dd2’s hair. We sat outside in the garden with snacks etc. Jesus wept.

fallfallfall · 17/10/2020 16:37

Well maybe there’s a benefit to lockdown, more time to cull lice.

DFAMA · 17/10/2020 16:39

Social distancing is clearly working well in schools

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/10/2020 16:42

Oh I wish we still had the school nit nurse.
They were like the Nurse Ratchet of nits & our parents would do anything not to invoke her wrath.

And I'm sure there were less cases of nits because of it.

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/10/2020 16:59

Glad people agree INBU maybe if we all started shouting expletives at them they'd stop infecting our children 🤣

Annoyingly just before they went back to school she caught them from a friends child (literally the only person we had seen in months) and I got rid of them, as her hair was combing clean for a good few weeks and now we are back to fucking square one again 🙄

Have I sworn enough in my posts yet? I really feel very sweary today like I want to mumble swear words all day... probably the joy of starting my day with an hour and a half head lice cull!

OP posts:
Kanaloa · 17/10/2020 17:15

They’re very annoying. I heard tea tree oil sprayed into hair stops you from catching them but don’t think it works as I use tea tree detangling spray and youngest dd has still had them this year!

DFAMA · 17/10/2020 17:20

Traceybeaker I totally agree. I only had them once in childhood - I still remember the awful lotion that really burned! I have lost count of how many times my children have had them, it seems like we just get rid of them and they come home from school scratching their heads again. I have given up with the treatments as they don't seem to work at all, we just have a good comb through with the nitty gritty

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/10/2020 17:45

What did eventually stop the little buggers from coming back was an electric nit comb from Boots.
Was quite satisfying hearing the bloody things sizzle. If I remember correctly you had to use it everyday for at 7 days (could have been more) to to break the cycle.
This was about 5 years ago & touch wood they haven't been back.

Anyone else scratching their head whilst reading this? Grin

mumwon · 17/10/2020 17:48

sigh conditioner & metal comb - do a quick comb each night op
one dminded child gave them to me once - I had never had them before, I would remember the itch once felt never forgotten - I was obviously allergic to their bite, as I am to mosquitos, leaches (dont ask!) & horseflies (last summers event)

RandomMess · 17/10/2020 17:51

DVD on

Dry hair

Cheap conditioner

Nitty Gritty comb

Repeat every 5-6 days.

Bastards

Thanks
BarefootHippieChick · 17/10/2020 17:51

I can't understand why headlice seem so much more prolific now. I had them once (and remember being allowed a day off school to have the treatment!) My kids have had them more times than I can count despite me constantly checking their hair for years.

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/10/2020 18:00

Annoyingly I've been conditioning and metal combing but these ones clearly had been hiding their babies somewhere...can lice build shelters??

I've always found the treat with silicone based treatment every 5-7 days two or three times the most affective.

We definitely need the nit nurses back in fact they should have allocated someone to do it forget the global pandemic to every child in the country before they returned to school.

When the kids were younger I tried tea tree oil in desperation and I'm sure I saw one of the lice laugh at me 😁 actually could the whole tea tree thing be a lie cooked up by the tea tree oil farmers to increase sales? Don's tin hat or cap 🧢

Headlice were virtually unknown when I was at school. And this was in the 70s and we didn't wash our hair as often anyway. Why are they so prevalent now?
RandomMess · 17/10/2020 18:11

You say metal comb but is it the Nitty Gritty one? No other compares...

It takes hatchlings 7 days to mature enough to lay eggs so hence the repeat every 5-6 days! Nitty Gritty also breaks their legs...

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/10/2020 18:20

Yes nitty gritty believe me I'm a battled hardened soldier in the war against nits! DD is thick and curly so I've found that it's easy enough to miss one proven by not only this episode but a previous one were I spent over an hour combing through thought that must be it and thought one more comb and found the biggest lice I'd ever seen!

Girlking · 17/10/2020 18:22

If your child’s hair is long enough use hair straighteners. Guaranteed to eradicate all nits/eggs

Sennedd · 17/10/2020 18:25

Thanks a lot! I have just washed my hair and am now scratching 😂😂😂😂

Dizzib1 · 17/10/2020 18:30

I bloody hate these things, my girls have had them more times than i can count. As soon as we get rid they get them again, i've spent a fortune on nit treatments.
My kids seem to be friends with kids that don't get treated at home too.

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/10/2020 18:32

@Sennedd

This will help soothe your itching images.app.goo.gl/9iF94stnzS44d8uB9 It certainly helped DD realise why we need to carry on treating them 🤢

I think there we less cases because the whole thing worked on a 'shame' sort of basis.

Basically (and I say this as a child of the 70s), children were handed what we called 'The brown envelope of shame' in front of everyone at home time.

So other kids and parents all saw. This would invoke panic in most parents and made them extra vigilant.

Then during later years, schools and HCPs worked hard to remove the 'shameful' aspect (which was obviously a good thing).

As a result though, a lot parents are now less vigilant/bothered about them.

RandomMess · 17/10/2020 18:42

@Sickoffamilydrama yes 4 DDs with long curled hair here 😭

When infested I used to do one blast with chemicals to kill the adults then Nitty Gritty every 3-4 days for 10 days then once another few times.

Awful times! Improved a lot when I realised you could put the conditioner on dry hair abs all be done in front of the TV!

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/10/2020 19:04

@RandomMess 4 DD would kill me I thought my 2 were bad enough, there's literally not enough Gin in the world to help me cope with that horror!

I'm still trying to persuade DD to do a Sigourney Weaver and shave it but she's having none of it... spoilsport. It would save us a fortune on conditioner as well.

Yes hair straighteners too

Worral I'd rather have the brown envelope shame if it kept the nits away.

A few years ago I read an article about two women running a head lice killing business. They were inundated with customers (pardon the pun)
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/oct/24/nits-head-lice-infest

They've been so successful that they've opened clinics around the UK

As an ex teacher, I got talking to a Dr & she said lice evolved in the 70's & became resistant to lots of treatments that previously worked. And the nit nurse meant any outbreak was swiftly quashed . These days people still think they were wiped out in the 7O's & don't check so outbreaks aren't discovered quickly. Americans swear by Listerine ( for the alcohol in it)or mayonaise (for their suffocation) & showercap left on overnight. My DM said in the 1940's white vinegar overnight was used. Rinse off with cold water first , then shampoo as normal or you reek!
