What is the main industry/employer in your town/city?

Just that really?
Is there a main type of industry or a huge company that holds most of the employment?

Examples; hospitality, car producers, pharmaceuticals, financial services etc etc

And did it sway your career path?

What is this research in aid of?

Why not just ask us all to post our addresses/postcodes and be done with it?

Manufacturing - beds, mattresses, furniture, and also food producers. Didn't sway me career-wise as I moved here as an adult.

Town I grew up in had two main employers in the infrastructure industry but was very blue collar.

Town I live in now is varied - big hospital trust but also close enough to two big cities to commute to.

shipbuilding, dock work, manufacturing, service - didn't sway my career choice I was always going to work in the public sector

Very large print firm

Tourism and hospitality. We're near two big attractions and generally touristy place

The NHS

I don't have the figures, but I would guess it would either be the NHS or the City Council

Rolls Royce

Local government. We have three tiers of council (town, district, county) in one town. By far the biggest employer here.

Yes it did sway my career path for a while.

Nuclear power station and yes.

NHS I should think. And something else which would immediately give my location so I'm not going to say.

All public sector: county council, district council, fire service and police all have their HQ where I live. We had the ambulance service HQ as well until a couple of years ago. The FE college is probably the next biggest.

There's a housing association that has over 1,000 staff based here, but only head office staff work here all the time, frontline staff could be anywhere in this county, the next county or a nearby city.

I have no idea what would be the biggest private sector employer. There's next to no industry here, so it would probably be Tesco. And it's not a big Tesco either, it hasn't got "superstore" status!
