To think I've really messed up

Got a scary letter from the bank today over an unpaid credit card debt. I'm ashamed to say I totally buried my head in the sand and avoided it until now.

I suffer with crippling anxiety due to other issues unrelated to my debt and have totally struggled to talk about the situation I've gotten myself in. However, I know this is the worst way to deal with it and need to get it sorted once and for all literally for the sake of my life, as I've often had suicidal thoughts because I just cannot see a way out.

I've now been told I've lost my right to pay in monthly instalments and that they will sell my debt elsewhere who will then demand the payment in full or take me to court.

The ironic thing is, I work in finance doing admin and would lose my job if I ever got a CCJ.

I'm terrified and feel so stupid for letting it get this far. I just want it resolved. Is it too late though? My job is at risk Sad

I think I've really messed up this time, haven't I?

I thought the big banks claimed to deal sensitively with people with mental health issues?

AdaColeman · 19/10/2020 15:46

Oh well done @weltonn, you are a Star Star Star !
We all knew that you could do it. Thanks Thanks

Rae36 · 19/10/2020 15:51

You are so brave op, well done. You'll sleep better tonight now you've done that.

Ferrari458 · 19/10/2020 15:53

Well done Op, onwards and upwards!

@pinkandstripey
I just wanted to say what a lovely person you are..... 😊

Graphista · 19/10/2020 16:08

Well done op and great news

Teddybear27 · 19/10/2020 16:10

@weltonn
I have just come across this post and been reading it..So pleased you have picked up the phone, spoken to a lovely person and got this sorted. How good do you feel now? We all get in these situations. It is just how you deal with them. Don’t let things like this happen again. Well done you and all the people that helped them ❤️

pinkandstripey · 19/10/2020 16:30

@teddybear27 you're very kind, it's easy to be a clear head when it's not your problem 😃

If anyone reading is currently worried about any of their own debts, now is a very good time to take the first step.

People who were in debt in March, now have 6 months further debts because lenders haven't been allowed to chase. The advice agencies will be inundated when the dam is released.

Before lockdown, at my citizen's advice office, you could be waiting 4 weeks (or more) for a debt appointment. Currently, it's often the following day - and all done over the phone.

If you're worried about debt, you could have light at the end of the tunnel by the weekend, how wonderful would that be?!

weltonn · 19/10/2020 16:42

Thanks everyone, I feel soooo relieved I can't even explain! I've had this hanging over me all weekend and had all sorts of outcomes going through my head, but I didn't even have to worry one bit.

If anybody else sees this and is going through a similar situation, please do not be afraid. If I can do it anybody can Smile

Ah weltonn, bloody well done. That first call is the hardest bit and you can breathe now. So pleased to read your updates this pm :)

jeff1965 · 19/10/2020 18:22

Well done on calling. Happy for you that you won't be worrying and can sleep a bit easier

Casschops · 19/10/2020 19:25

@weltonn today the bank tomorrow the world 🌎

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 19/10/2020 21:36

Bloody well done @weltonn It is terrifying, because you can't see a way out when the envelopes are piling up. But you did it. I promise you, every single month that you see your debt reduce, your anxiety over it will lift just that bit more, because you know you're slowly getting things back together again. And if you do get the odd month when you can pay even just an extra fiver towards it, it does give you such a feeling of pride.

We told you it wouldn't be so bad, didn't we? You've put yourself back in control now Flowers

Hopefully you'll remember this next time something happens & it would be better to deal with it!!Smile
