Why does everyone say Belgium chocolate? I thought it was supposed to be Belgian. It drives me crazy when I see it. It's Belgian chocolate isnt it?

I don't know anyone who says Belgium chocolate!? Hmm

AlexaShutUp · 16/10/2020 15:32

I've never seen anyone say Belgium chocolates! Well, until I saw your thread!

ohidoliketobe · 16/10/2020 15:32

It is Belgian... I don't think I've heard anyone say Belgium. Is it an accent thing maybe?

AllPlayedOut · 16/10/2020 15:33

I've never heard anyone say Belgium chocolate, until now.

OldGreyBoots · 16/10/2020 15:33

I see this a lot on menus, as "Belgium Waffle" rather than Belgian. YANBU and it drives me mad too!

username108 · 16/10/2020 15:33

Seriously, everyone on SM says it!!!

OP posts:
GreyishDays · 16/10/2020 15:33

That’s like ‘France fries’.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/10/2020 15:34

Stay off social media. Clearly a bunch of ignoramuses.

GreyishDays · 16/10/2020 15:34

@username108

Seriously, everyone on SM says it!!!
Your mission is to correct that. Good start on here.
username108 · 16/10/2020 15:35

I wonder if its a bit like the 'chester draws' situation😂

OP posts:
BreconBeBuggered · 16/10/2020 15:35

YANBU, but only because my DH says it, so I know it's a thing. It would drive me mad, but he only says it when he's buying it for me, which I can live with.

Somethingsnappy · 16/10/2020 15:35

@GreyishDays

That’s like ‘France fries’.
Or Germany sausage! Grin
formerbabe · 16/10/2020 15:36

Yes you're right I think.

It's the equivalent of saying France fries rather than french fries

I think....

iklboo · 16/10/2020 15:38

Denmark pastries
Switzerland cheese
England muffins
Norway Wood

TeddyIsaHe · 16/10/2020 15:40

I knew this was what this thread would be about before I opened it.

It drives me crackers!! There’s a sweet shop near me that sells’Belgium Chocolates’ argh

Somethingsnappy · 16/10/2020 17:07

Greece yoghurt, Sweden massage, Thailand curry.....

TH22 · 16/10/2020 17:21

Not quite the same, but I really can't stand it when someone orders an 'Expresso'

QuestionableMouse · 16/10/2020 17:24

When I lived in the USA, down the road from the farm I worked at there was a Belgium draft (horse) breeder. Nope, it's Belgian. Used to drive me crazy.

GreyishDays · 16/10/2020 18:02

Jesus Christ, Godiva themselves are at it.

GreyishDays · 16/10/2020 18:03

Where is the picture? Try again.

Seriously, everyone on SM says it!!!
Firstly, who are these people are why are they all talking about chocolates?

Secondly, you need to change your circle of acquaintances if they say stuff like ‘Belgium chocolates’. Good grief.

Thirdly, no good can come of SM!

FourEyesGood · 16/10/2020 22:15

Until this thread, I’d never heard or seen anyone call them Belgium chocolates. I definitely would have noticed.

DollyDoneMore · 16/10/2020 22:16

No they don’t.

Everyone on your social media might. Find new people to follow.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/10/2020 22:17

I haven’t heard this either but that Instagram post from Godiva hurts me

WiddlinDiddlin · 16/10/2020 22:19

Not chocolates but dogs..

Belgium Shepherd dog, Belgium Malinois (or in one case, Belgium Malinwah... shudder)

I don't know why. It makes me want to beat them to death with a blunt object though.
