Who Else Cannot Stand Alcohol and Never Drinks It?

I really hate the taste and never have any urge to drink anything containing alcohol (friends always try to tell me its just because you've not tried gin/Baileys/a certain cocktail/some wine/whatever). I never have the urge to drink it as it tastes unpleasant to me, and remains unpleasant tasting even if I do get drunk. I get very flushed in the face on the very rare occasions I force myself to drink to be sociable and either feel sleepy or become warlike and want to fight like a God, in every case I wake up the next morning feeling normal and have never experienced a hangover effect. But I just don't want to drink.

It seems that the whole world is about looking forward to a drink, prosecco, wine, whatever. I just can't stand the attraction. Is there anyone else out there who feels the same? (I have no problem with people who do enjoy drinking and I enjoy going out and partying, I just stay sober)

A half decent Châteauneuf-du-is the nectar of Zeus. Although probably not Zeus alone, since I’m not sure he ever went to France.
Cheap plonk is just that and is a tad paint stripper like, but has it’s place in youth.
A better wine is health giving. Joyous. Melts into the tastebuds like purple honey and aged oak.

Wish I didn’t, but I do. I really really do. Only got enough Rose Blush in the fridge for one glass tonight and I’m gutted.

BlueThistles · 16/10/2020 21:45

enjoy your Rose Blush 🌺 it sounds very pretty

DrManhattan · 16/10/2020 23:22

Not for me. My body cannot cope with it and the hangovers + the fear were just too much.
Don't miss it at all

nevernotstruggling · 17/10/2020 00:59

I've just realised I can't drink any more. It's been about 3 units for the last 18 months. I moved teams at work and was given a bottle of Prosecco. I had 2 glasses and was hungover and very emotional for days.

I used to live cocktails and prosecco etc abd drank plenty in my youth.

I shall miss fruit ciders that's lovely but I'm done

[quote rosiejaune]I don't like it, and it makes the back of my neck/shoulders ache.

Yes, I get this too. Used to be awful when I was drinking regularly as a student trying to fit in. I've only ever drunk alcohol to fit in/lose inhibitions in social situations, but I've never enjoyed the taste, and it always gives me a headache and occasionally makes me vomit (even a half glass). Now I don't have much of a social life due to small dc and the only person I hang out with is DH, and I don't need a drink to feel relaxed around him, so I never drink any more. I think it's much more socially acceptable to drink non alcoholic drinks these days though.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 17/10/2020 01:16

me, been teetotal my whole life

im 39

i wont ever be around people drinking as i dont like the smell or the way people act

OldAndWornOut · 17/10/2020 01:25

I don't drink these days, because I really did only do it to be sociable.
Scanning along the bar trying to look for something that might not take like vinegar or paint thinners.
And oh! The heartburn!

FayKnights · 17/10/2020 01:29

I used to love a drink when I was younger, but now I’m in my 40s, I find it makes me sweaty, doughy and gives me ungodly alcohol shits the next morning. Its just not worth the aftermath!

grassisjeweled · 17/10/2020 01:29

I had around 3/4 bottle of wine over an entire evening and felt like shit for about 48 hours afterwards. It just is not worth it at all. The hangovers are too bad.

SeekingAnswers3 · 17/10/2020 01:34

Yes. It’s not that I can’t stand it particularly... just that drinking at home is not for me. I prefer a cuppa.

Oh and I can’t stand the 2 day hangovers I get. Awful

DuchessMinnie · 17/10/2020 08:50

God, if there was a way of making alcohol taste disgusting like that for me OP I'd be there. I love the taste of wine, beer and gin. I envy you actually, except i could not survive without black coffee.

You just reminded me of that God awful film with the adulterous bloke rambling on about wine.

Sideways? Zzzzzzzzzzz. Grin

I don't like the taste of alcohol or the feeling of being drunk. I've been drunk probably 6 times in my life, all under the age of 25. I've not drunk at all for about 12 years and rarely drank before that.
