To be a bit peeved (lighthearted)

One person in my team booked a week off in August during the bank holiday this year meaning that no one else could have that same week off.

This same person has just put in a request for the same week off in 2021 (yes I know - our 2021 holiday bookings are already open), meaning that again no one else can take that week off.

AIBU to have missed out yet again on having a week's holiday with 4 days' worth of annual leave?

YABU = you're being a bit mardy at not being quick enough to book it yourself

YANBU = your colleague is being selfish

Unless they had access to the system before you then YABU. Unfortunately, if you wanted that week off then you should've been at the front of the queue when it became bookable.

I think if you have the type of job where only one person can be off at once then a first come first served system is a bit shit. What happens at Christmas?

There are 5 other weeks where you can achieve the same thing, OP.

How big is your team? Where I work the management team are reasonably good at picking up these patterns and asking who wants leave in 'prime' weeks, trying to arrange everything fairly. Easter + may bank holidays can often be used like this, so make sure not just 1 person takes advantage

Out of interest why didn’t you book it?
