BIG wasp in the bathroom today. I vacated the premises sharpish (huge fear of wasps) and requested DH (who was working at home) to come and kill it! He said he would 'shortly' - I go out to school etc - come back 2 hours later - say 'did you execute that vile flying striped thing?' - he says 'oh no not yet' - seeing my clenched teeth he then goes up to bathroom and guess what - cannot find wasp! Window and door was shut so its still in there somewhere. DH thinks it will have died - I think it is lurking, waiting to pounce and sting me and/or the girls when we are most vulnerable! Why couldn't he have killed it when I knew where it was???? And don't say I should have killed it myself - I can't stay in the same space as them, let alone have the nerve to despatch them.

we had a huge one in the kitchen it was about 5cm long, massive! I whacked it with my shoe.

Queens do come inside at this time of year to find somewhere cosy to overwinter. I had 4 in my kitchen a couple of weeks ago - luckily I'm not too scared of wasps. The easiest way to catch them is to wait till they've settled on something, put a glass over and then slip a sheet of card underneath. (yes, in wasp season I keep these handy!).

Then just take it down the garden and release.

Swatting seems like asking to get stung tbh.

The point of wasps? Natures way of proving there is no Intelligent Designer of course

fizzbuzz, wasp was confused

was hairstyle a beehive?

fizzbuzz · 12/10/2007 21:14

JoFan, you are too clever for your own good No, it wasn't a beehive, I think the correct term was probably a wasps nest

geekymummy · 14/10/2007 09:53

ohh I think there's a nest lurking around here, the other day saw about EIGHT wasps in the bathroom , most of them dead, a couple twitching. They were huge! Dispatched them with some spray and calling pest control on Monday...

Exactly the same happened to me on Friday!!! MASSIVE, MASSIVE wasp in our dining room. I too phoned up DH to come home and kill it. Legged it from room and shut door. By the time he got home, the wasp had gone. What a nightmare!!! It must be lurking somewhere. I can't avoid this room though as it has the computer in!!!

Did you ever find the evil beast Boomie? I heartily recommend the mop technique. Mop with extending handle thing especially good as you can get a long long way away from the site of impact!
