Unprotected sex after birth when should I take pregnancy test?

Me and my partner had unprotected sex 7 weeks after our baby was born. Stupidly I didn’t know how fertile you can be even if you still haven’t come on your period 🙄 I feel like a fool for not knowing.
Just want to know when would be the best time to take a pregnancy test to know for sure, as I still haven’t had a period yet It would be hard to know when I ovulated.
I did one exactly a week after and it was negative but know that can’t be trusted as it could be too soon for accurate result.

I think it would usually be around 14 days after sex. If that’s negative leave it another week and test again. If that’s negative you can be fairly certain you aren’t pregnant.

What @TheMagicDeckchair ^ said. Are you breastfeeding? Makes a significant difference.

Sexnotgender · 14/10/2020 11:57

You should get a result 2/3 weeks after sex.

PotteringAlong · 14/10/2020 11:58

Give it 3 weeks and if it’s negative you’re fairly certain you’re not Pregnant.

At least 2 weeks after sex, I’d wait 16 days to be sure. If you’re exclusively breastfeeding this does offer some contraceptive properties but yes you still can get pregnant before anyone jumps on me.

If you are exclusively breastfeeding you will be fine. If not I'd test weekly for 4 weeks after sex

That’s not true.

Breastfeeding is not a contraceptive. They were giving out fliers in the ward when I gave birth 5 years ago as so many women still believe this and end up pregnant again very quickly.

Sorry forgot to mention Baby has been formula fed since birth

My midwife said, “do you want to explain why you have two children in the same school year that aren’t twins? If not, use condoms.”

Bloody worked. The idea of that was horrific!

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 14/10/2020 13:23

You’ve already had a baby and you didn’t realise you were fertile before your period?

Anyway, 2 weeks after sex should give you a reasonably accurate answer
