Asked to bring urine sample to smear test

It’s my first ever smear test and I am a bit nervous.
The thing I find confusing is I’ve been asked to bring a urine sample along to my smear test appointment. No one I feel comfortable asking has had to take a urine sample so I’m worrying a bit, has anyone any experience of this at all?

Nope I’ve never been asked this sorry. Google must give some answers?

If it’s your first and your in your 20s could it be routine chlamydia screening? They did this back in the early 2000s but no idea if they still do?

*you’re even!!

They might be using it as an opportunity to offer a Well Woman health check at the same time? BP, urine dip, smear, height, weight etc?

I don’t routinely ask women to bring a urine sample (I do smears) but used to years ago when we combined smears with a Well Woman check.

I wonder if they’re trialling the new urine test for HPV, I’ve heard a bit about that.

That was my thought too

Didn’t they provide any information leaflet with the invitation letter? If not, that’s poor form. I’d ring the GP surgery and ask the receptionist why? It could well be like PP said and they are trialing looking for HPV in urine, but they should explain that to you.

They should have told you. So if they haven't, call and ask!

Eeyorehoney · 13/10/2020 19:28

Thank you everyone! No I’ve not received a leaflet or any information at all so it’s been very confusing!
I will ring the GP tomorrow, they’re quite tricky to get hold!

Thank you again 😊
