Need cheering up and love a wee celebration about what makes us individual.

Mine are:

  • I lived in a flat with no freezer or microwave for 5 years. Just never really bothered to buy them.
  • I sneeze whenever I drink red wine or eat dark chocolate!

When im walking down a street I red the car number plates and try to make them relate. Eg - if it read FTI 4821 id rearrange the letters to make Fit then the numbers id say 4×2=8 then 8×1=8 strange!

I don't like eating crisps if I feel my hair is greasy

Puffalicious · 12/10/2020 01:33

Some of these are awesome. The quirks are what makes us who we are.

As a child I had to do things in threes- light switches, up and down stairs, coughing, combing etc.

I still like to have cold drinks- milk, fresh orange juice, cordial- using a tea spoon in the glass. It's no necessary but I like it.

I, too, will only drink tea from a cup.with a white interior, preferably china.

I can't leave any part of a packet/ container of food unclean- so will swirl my finger round the cream cheese/ hummus/ crisp packet to get the last remnants. It's not because I'm starving, I just can't leave it there.

Ooh I should have mentioned that I am a huge hair fiddler. It's a habit I've had since I was a toddler. Just so comforting, but looks awful at work so I just try to do a tiny bit when I think no one is looking!

I also LOVE to dip salt and vinegar crisps into full fat Coke. Try it. It's genuinely amazing.

Just thought of another one.

When being a car passenger I lightly curl my toes the whole time, then release them whenever the car goes over a bump. Another thing I've done since a child!

@bathtimebubblebath I get that. It’s hyperempathy. YBF is horrendous for it, especially if they land on their neck.

If I’m anxious I have to watch unchallenging cosy British sitcoms, which are mainly set in a familiar front room. It makes me feel safe. My DP always knows if I’m a bit out of sorts if As Time Goes By is on.

I’m not British so I don’t know where the habit came from.

felineflutter · 12/10/2020 07:43

If I'm talking on the phone I have to walk around. I cannot sit down. My DF used to do this too.

MellowMelly · 12/10/2020 07:48

Another one here with an aversion to Velvet and velour style fabrics. I find them so hideous to touch that I have to find another surface to scratch my nails on to remove/replace the sensation of the velvet if I’ve unfortunately touched it. It makes me whole body recoil in horror. Apparently it’s called Haptodysphoria.

I sneeze when I take my first sip of Baileys or upon my first mouthful of any Chocolate mousse and if I rub between my eyebrows.

AestheticWitch · 12/10/2020 09:15

When drinking water or squash, I have to hold on to the tap with one hand and down it all in one, I can't put the glass down and sip it casually.

RainbowReader · 12/10/2020 09:15

@WonderMoon I do that too! I kind of clench my fists and shake them like Wallace of Gromit fame.

Also when something is really cute I kind of fold my tongue and bite down on it to let the anger at how cute it is out. Cute aggression I think it's called.

JustanotherTuesday · 12/10/2020 09:54

@EdinaMonsoon I've never heard of anybody else having that problem either. I always thought it was just me being strange Smile

WonderMoon · 13/10/2020 14:20

@criminallyinsane
Ha, maybe it's more common then I thought, I always think its abit weird when I do it, which is often!

@RainbowReader
I sometimes bite down on my tongue when I'm watching something really gripping or I'm really engrossed in something. I dont realise I'm doing it till it starts hurting!

SweatyBetty20 · 13/10/2020 14:50

If I’m walking with another person I have to be the one on the left. Can’t deal with the other way.

Dillo10 · 13/10/2020 16:37

@okilydokily Oh my gosh I do this! I keep trying until I can get the word "even" in my mind then I can move on... It's very strange to imagine someone else does it haha

okilydokily · 13/10/2020 19:41

@Dillo10 @APJ1 @PennyRoyal Four of us weirdos, at least! Just wondering if it might be either a piano playing thing or a touch typing thing? I also meant I had to finish back on my left pinky, not left thumb!!

Dillo10 · 13/10/2020 19:54

@okilydokily

Oh it can't be that, I tap mine out with my feet/toes not my fingers... I tap each syllable on alternating feet until I land back evenly on the left. Hard to explain! I'm even weirder than you guys maybe?!

@APJ1 @PennyRoyal

micc · 13/10/2020 20:00

Haha this thread is hilarious. My OH could probably write a novel about my quirks!

Off the top of my head. I hate the wind. Like seriously hate it. Such a broad and annoying thing too hate 🤦‍♀️ like imagine being on a boat at sea when its windy!! Omg!!! I'd rather die! I cant stand umbrellas blowing in the wind either.

micc · 13/10/2020 20:01

Oh and when an embarrassing memory crosses my mind I audibly cringe, or say 'oh no that's embarrassing' and people are like what? And I'm like something I did when I was 12.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 13/10/2020 20:29

Despite being a woman I absolutely cannot multi-task. I don’t get how people can do things like read or do work on a computer and listen to music at the same time. Its become well known at work if I’m using the computer or my phone there is no point trying to talk to me once I’ve started because it doesn’t register! Driving and holding a conversation at the same time is another example of my total lack of ability to multi-task.

I can’t spell in ‘adult’ letters!

I have a bit of an obsession about things being symmetrical.

I too check other peoples wiper speeds when it rains to see if I’m being dramatic!

okilydokily · 13/10/2020 21:04

@dillo10 Ha - I do toes instead if I'm pushed for time.... I do all of the little toes on the left foot first, then the left big toe, then right big toe followed by right little toes. That gives a count of four, and I'll go backwards to the left foot again. Always got to finish on the extreme left! Takes some thinking about, and is v annoying when I'm trying to work or do something else!! Grin
