Need cheering up and love a wee celebration about what makes us individual.

Mine are:

 • I lived in a flat with no freezer or microwave for 5 years. Just never really bothered to buy them.
 • I sneeze whenever I drink red wine or eat dark chocolate!

I wiggle my feet in the shape of the Infinity symbol when I'm sitting down. I do it even though it annoys me .

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/10/2020 23:36

@Whatwouldnanado

I can't bear to touch velvet/ velour fabrics. Even thinking about it, like I am now, brings me out in goose pimples all over.
I'm the same. When I was younger my parents had a volvo and the seats were a sort of valour fabric. Even the thought of going in that car made me feel a bit sick and gave me shivers.
ICantThinkOfOne13 · 11/10/2020 23:37

I like to make sentences in my head with 19 or 22 letters.
If I hear something on the tele thats close to that but not quite I'll change the words in my head to make it fit.
Alllllll day long and it drives me mad!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 11/10/2020 23:37

I feel almost panicky if one of my slippers falls off. If I can't immediately put it back on I have to take the other one off as well. Both feet have to feel the same.

I don't like stepping over grills in the pavement - especially those with beer cellars underneath.

Smallsteps88 · 11/10/2020 23:38

If I feel irritated/crabby for no obvious reason I pluck my eyebrows or trim my fingernails. Always feel better afterwards. I don’t know if I’m crabby because my fingernails need cut or if I just feel better after cutting them for no reason. Chicken and egg scenario. I never get irritated by my eyebrows but I do feel better after tidying them.

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/10/2020 23:39

I get a really tingly inside of my nose when I eat something sweet! I love it! A creme egg ALWAYS does it so now I call it ‘creme egg nose’ regardless as to what it is I’m actually eating that causes it!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 11/10/2020 23:40

I can only drink out of cups with white insides (sometimes cream or pale grey is OK, but I'm not very keen).
I did buy a mug last week that has a coloured fish on the bottom, and that's OK, and I'm fine with glass mugs.

I cannot drink tea out of a cup that has 'coffee' printed on the outside, and vice versa.
That dinner service that was popular a few years ago - cream stone wear with "tea-coffee-chocolate" printed around the side of mugs, and bowls with soup-pasta etc. used to make me feel unwell.

ponygirlcurtis · 11/10/2020 23:45

Me too on the button phobia! I've always had it, as a child I put pen on a brand new blouse so I wouldn't have to wear it. As an adult I just choose not to have much to do with them myself although I have to deal with buttons on DSs' school stuff (I hate it but grit my teeth). I have a couple of cardigans with buttons that I can cope with because they aren't near my neck.

I have loads of pick-related quirks. If I have a bit of skin loose on a finger I can't stop myself attacking it (including with my teeth) even if it is inappropriate eg I am talking to someone.

FloorLamp · 11/10/2020 23:45

I start coughing when I use cotton buds to clean inside my ears 🤷

EdinaMonsoon · 11/10/2020 23:46

@JustanotherTuesday I’ve never heard of anyone else feeling sick at the sight of a certain colour! For me it’s purple - from lilac to rich dark shades. Almost brings on a migraine.

I can’t bear to look at any surface with holes in it. There is a term for it but I can’t remember it right now. It stems from that awful fake news article that circulated online a few years ago about some insect found in bras that burrowed into nipples. Transpired that the image was actually a lotus flower seed head & they now make me feel sick too. Sounds really far fetched as I write it now but it appeared everywhere at the time & I now feel sick whenever I think of it let alone see such a surface.

I regularly feel compelled to turn in a specific direction when moving around my house even when it doesn’t make sense.

oakleaffy · 11/10/2020 23:48
@Proudling dh gets those!

I feel weird when someone writes with a sharpie pen!

When we’ve cooked eggs, unless the dishes afterwards have been almost boiled, the smell makes me wretch and I’ve often had to wash the plates again just to get rid of the smell.
This made me laugh out loud...
I detest the smell and texture of egg white...and have to throw the white away.
Yet if it is made into a meringue, I can eat it.

No eggy whiff.

Ugh....I remember those fake pics.

Trypophobia

They are gross pics. I won't copy and paste a pic as I have my own 'phobia' and would loathe to see it in an image!

APJ1 · 11/10/2020 23:52

When I'm anxious I play with my nose and kind of 'click' the fleshy part.

Yep!

I tap out some words and phrases on my fingers, syllable by syllable, starting with my left pinky then moving to left ring finger, left middle finger, left index finger, left thumb, then it's the right hand, thumb to pinky. If I do all ten fingers and the phrase hasn't finished yet, I tap backwards from right hand to left.

You are also me! Shock

Longtallsally39 · 11/10/2020 23:53

I eat a Bigmac in 2 parts, the top burger and the bun and then eat the bottom burger. My Dh finds it hilarious! I also hum a lot, I don’t even know I’m doing it sometimes!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 11/10/2020 23:55

When I hurt myself, I often get a weird nerve pain in a completely different part of my body. So I will be plucking my eyebrows, for example, & every time I pull one out, I get a sharp pain for an instant somewhere else in my body. It's always in the same place for a certain body part, & the other eyebrow will have a corresponding pain mirrored in my body when I pluck that. I've always had it. Makes me think maybe there's something to acupuncture...

I completely lack any kind of sweet tooth. I really like raw cacao nibs - many people find them disgustingly bitter. I like normal (decent quality) chocolate, but only because it's chocolate...

Also, I have absolutely no visual imagination. I can't even really remember what DD or DH look like, except in terms of a verbal description.

oakleaffy · 11/10/2020 23:57

@FloorLamp

Ah, I read an article about this...that earwax can make people cough! ... Maybe it is pressing on the same nerve that stimulates coughing?

Arnold's nerve?

grassisjeweled · 11/10/2020 23:58

I blow on cold food

grassisjeweled · 12/10/2020 00:00

Another one who can't do holes. It's got worse as I've got older. Pomegranates? No thanks

Marimaur · 12/10/2020 00:03

My husband and my ex both told me I sometimes raise one arm straight up in the air whilst sleeping and hold it there for ages.

PennyRoyal · 12/10/2020 00:04

@okilydokily

I have to finish on the left thumb though. If the particular phrase I'm tapping is less than 19 syllables I have to go back and start the tapping again, but I start a bit further along and do it by trial and error until I work out which finger to start on so that I finish the phrase on my left thumb.

I do this too. Also with song lyrics. Get very stressed if I can't end it on my little pinkie Blush

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/10/2020 00:05

I feel physically sick at the sound of metal on metal.

I can't sleep unless every single door/drawer in the house is closed, otherwise vampires will get me. DH thinks this is batshit, but I assure you it's completely rational.

I'm a won't cook - I'm a really, really good cook, but chronically lazy and half the time live off scrambled eggs, snacks and take aways.

I hate cake.

clumsyv · 12/10/2020 00:06

I have to shampoo my hair either once or 3 times when washing my hair as it feels like bad luck if I leave it at 2nd squirt.

MollysMummy2010 · 12/10/2020 00:13

@marimaur I also do that !!

FloorLamp · 12/10/2020 00:21

@oakleefy.

Interesting I'll have to Google that! 👍

felineflutter · 12/10/2020 00:23

@RainbowReader I share some of those loose buttons and copper coins actually 5ps are horrible too! I literally have to throw away. If a penny or a button is on the carpet I feel uncomfortable until it"s removed.

I also only sleep on left side with leg bent at 90 degrees. I also curl my hands in like s mouse.

I touch wood a lot on random thoughts.
