The Specials, Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think)

All over the internet it's:

It's good to be wise when you're young
'Cos you can only be young but the once
Enjoy yourself and have lots of fun
So glad and live life longer than you've ever done

It's not "So glad and live life longer than you've ever done" though is it?

I've always heard it as "So go out and live life [something, better?, forever?] than you've ever done" but I think that's wrong as well.

Totally irrelevant, unless you happen to be in your early fifties and thinking 'WTF?' about life. Grin

to me it sounds like 'So go out and live life longer than you've ever done'

Misheard song lyrics! I've now got that Peter Kay sketch in my head. Also stuck in my head: "got my first real sex dream, boy at the five and dime" famously not sung by Brian Adams.

Hello, I’m Terry and I’m going to enjoy myself first!

(I’m in my early 50s and was a huge Specials fan.)

OldPodge · 12/10/2020 04:37

Loved them too and I’m in my late 50s. Have to admit though didn’t realise it was ‘Specials’ not ‘The Specials’. Oh, and Terry was my idea of the perfect man in those days.

YellowJellyfish · 12/10/2020 04:49

Yes they're def The Specials also knows as The Special AKA.

Just to throw it in there, it was 41 years ago that their debut album came out! Forty one fucking years ago!!

Rude Girls Forever!!

This reminds me of a Hazel O'Conner concert I went to a couple of years ago. I looked round and wondered why all the old people were there!!

maras2 · 12/10/2020 07:29

I'm from and still live in the Special's city and am exactly the same age as Horace Panter. Born on the same day although he's not from here originally. Smile

Originally a hit in 1949 for Guy Lombardo I believe.
