To ask what fantasy story you play in your head?

Mine is dancing with a hot dancer in a Strictly type competition. Sometimes it’s just about dancing with a hot dancer, other times it’s about everyone I know watching me and thinking how fabulous I look and move. In reality I’m fat with two left feet dancing round the kitchen! Grin Does anyone have a fantasy scenario in their head or am I the only saddo??!

Me too, long running since childhood. I’ve been the same person in the fantasy ever since then but different to the real me eg fantasy me has magical powers.
Amazed it’s so common! Would never tell anyone in real life.

recklessruby · 10/10/2020 18:43

Does anyone change their name in their fantasy life?
I used to have an unusual (for my age) name but now there are heaps of people called it so I am my middle name in my story.

LunaNorth · 10/10/2020 18:46

I’m a rock star or an actress in musical theatre.

I’ve also been on Desert Island Discs quite a few times.

LunaNorth · 10/10/2020 18:53

Or I’ve done a JK Rowling and written a multi-million-selling-licence-to print-money series of novels.

I therefore have a range of houses, including a brownstone in NYC, an ocean-front villa in Punta Mita, a modest gîte in France, a Mayfair
townhouse and a rambling house in North Norfolk.

All staffed, of course. Wouldn’t want the pipes to freeze in winter.

Cattermole · 10/10/2020 18:58

Time travel. Like Outlander but a different period of history.

wishfull888 · 10/10/2020 19:06

Particularly this time of year...
I live in the Alps / Pyrenees/ Rockies & spend my days skiing , returning to my chalet hot tub with a view to sip rosè and be catered for by my personal chef.

Usually my regular life but all loved up with whatever man is flavour of the month. Have to create a nice detailed/realistic backstory as to why said hot guy would actually be interested because even dream-me knows when she's punching 😅

Ginger1982 · 10/10/2020 21:21

So I write a lot of FanFiction and it usually depends who I'm crushing on at the time! Publishing it online and getting feedback just feeds it!

MsStillwell · 10/10/2020 21:23

I tend to keep mine for drifting off to sleep nowadays, or as a treat on train journeys if it’s a rather gruelling work trip. I think they were probably more of a problem when I was younger, but then they were an important escape.

I too have historical fantasy (normally Saxon/Viking) and Sometimes I work in a turn of the century grand house, running through the different servants.

My easy go-to scenario is that I win the lottery that night.

MsStillwell · 10/10/2020 21:25

Oh, and I have often been interviewed on Woman’s Hour.

ArranBound · 10/10/2020 21:36

Mine is always about winning big on the Euromillions and how our lives would be. I'm planning who I'm going to give money to, the house we'd build, where around the world we would have other homes, being able to employ a gardener (I love my garden!), the charities we would support and so on. I picture it all in my head & try to feel the joy it would bring.

Kanaloa · 10/10/2020 21:37

I am a famous singer in a band. I also have an entire second life in the world of Harry Potter where I am either a top auror or the most favoured Hogwarts teacher.

Againanothername · 10/10/2020 22:29

Somebodybthrows me a surprise party and everybody who I love and admire is there to tell me how awesome they think I am.

Livpool · 10/10/2020 22:34

I am with @VashtaNerada - I play a character in tv shows I enjoy. So far I have been a character in Supernatural, Stargate SG1 and Big Bang Theory.

I just thought I was weird 🤷🏼‍♀️

George1984 · 10/10/2020 22:40

Omg I do this, I thought I was utterly bonkers 🤦🏼‍♀️ nice to know I'm not the only one.
I suffer badly with anxiety and depression and find that 'daydreaming' is my escape when things get too much 🙂

Belledan1 · 10/10/2020 22:50

Me too I thought I was the only person that did this. I do lots of them. Very simikar to Arranbond. When I was a lot younger I used to do scenarios that Martin Kemp was my husband to be and plan out things. Sometimes when I am out and see someone acting a bit strange I note the details and end up doing crime watch reconstructions in my head.

SierraHotel · 10/10/2020 22:54

@Tiredmum100 I actually laughed out loud when I read your post..thank god, I thought only I did that looking forward to bedtime thing!

Witchend · 10/10/2020 22:57

@ContessaDiPulpo

All my fantasy stories are literal fantasy - set in worlds from games usually, but all quite Lord of the Rings-esque! I'm not even in them, but I have half a dozen characters I make up storylines for, full of romance and betrayal

Oh my god, I do this Shock I have never met anyone else who admits to it!! I've always done it - I first remember making up stories in my head about my favourite toy range aged 4. I remember thinking it was a great game as no-one knew I was playing it and I didn't have to tidy it up when I was done and could take it anywhere. 30 years on I'm still at it, only now it's a story based in the Star Trek universe and my characters have rather graphic lives sometimes Grin I'm not even in it!

The internal soap opera has helped me to process quite a lot of interactions, I think - I pick something I've seen during the day and put my characters through it, or a version of it, creating dialogue, drama etc. I love it Blush

Mine is fantasy too. Sometimes I'll spend days thinking through a specific scene getting it right, other times it just rolls on from one to another. I'm not always in it either.
Peace43 · 10/10/2020 23:25

I enjoy a post apocalyptic world where everyone, but the people I love, died overnight of a horrible disease. It’s been a long running drift off to sleep world for me. I knew I needed a divorce when my then husband started not surviving the cull!

I’m pretty well balanced in my non-daydream life!!

SciFiScream · 11/10/2020 09:56

I daydream. I use it to help me sleep like so many others. It's my internal holodeck. Star Trek features highly in my stories. I've loved doing this for as long as I can remember. They are very private. I'd never share.

I have about 5 or 6 I cycle through.

Sometimes I like to be along just to have my daydream.

RefriedBeanz · 11/10/2020 11:26

@BigBadVoodooHat

I'm a long time maladaptive daydreamer and have several fantasy lives spanning years.

I think I’m probably a borderline maladaptive daydreamer. I have an entire parallel universe running in my head pretty much all of the time.

Me too. Don’t get as much time now with 3 young dc but when I was younger, I lived in my alternate head universe more than the real world!
OverTheRubicon · 11/10/2020 11:37

Me too! Never the present, either in history or a fantasy world. I'm very beautiful, in a natural and effortless kind of way (just like in RL obvs Wink) and younger, and in a really bad situation that I'm gradually overcoming with good grace and sharp wits.

Since having kids they're part of it too, but never stbxh (that was probably a sign, but took me a few years to recognise it). There is, however, always really good childcare.

Oysterbabe · 11/10/2020 11:40

Sometimes if a see something happen while I'm out I'll replay the whole thing later but I'll jump in and save the day somehow.
Like once I saw a man really let rip, screaming at his young son. After the boy was quietly sobbing and the mum was trying to comfort him without the dad noticing. It looked awful, like the dad was really feared by the whole family. I've torn that guy to pieces a thousand times in my head.

TheId · 11/10/2020 11:51

Not so much now but as a kid I had a fantasy that I was an incredible gymnast and could just turn somersaults effortlessly in the playground. In later years sometimes it was a dancer specifically a tango dancer.

In reality I am very uncoordinated and shit at all sports. I was always picked last for teams as a kid and I recall the stinging humiliation of it always coming down to me and one other to be picked last.
