Contraception at 47

Just weighing up contraception options. Had copper coils from 20 through to 39. Then had three children in my 40”s, last one at 45, so I’ve been blessed with good fertility. I don’t want hormone based contraception, I suffer with migraines and tbh feel too old (can’t be faffed) with taking the pill and I don’t want injections or implants. I don’t want a copper coil again, 20 years of horrendously heavy periods was enough. I’m toying with natural family planning ie tracking ovulation and using condoms during that window but not outside of that window.

In reality your chance of conceiving at 47 Is virtually zero isn’t it?

No, not a slim chance of falling pregnant at all. Slim chance of carrying to term though.
I was unexpectedly pregnant at 46. Other children were born when I was 40 and 38.

Miscarried at around 11 weeks. Maybe it was age, maybe genetics (different father to the first two children ; he has no other offspring), who knows.

I stopped taking the pill at 50-ish. Still sharking every blardy month and I’m 52 in a couple of weeks.

I went through the pill, depo and mirena before we were ready for babies. When we went through baby planning stage we used condoms and when we were done he had a vasectomy. It took a year or two for him to talk himself into it, I never pushed him into it.

I’m 44 and periods came back within 4 months of not having depo injection, and I thought I was never really very fertile (struggled to get pregnant in 30’s). The nurse said it would be 12 months at least for my fertility to return. Thankfully I’ve been using condoms too. If you don’t want another baby don’t take chances.
It’s well documented that women in mid 40’s have a last burst of fertility- ask my Nan!

I know someone who had a baby at the age of 51, natural conception and 25 years after having her first, healthy baby girl.

I think if you were tracking it you should be fine. Very very unusual to fall pregnant at 47. Not impossible but I think that boats sailed

[quote MadameMeursault]Sorry about the Daily Heil link but your chances are a lot more than zero OP....

I bet that lassie went to specsavers the day she seen those lines! Crikey o’reily.

Sorry but it’s his turn now - tell him
Condoms or vasectomy

I hate all the birth control options I’ve had - headaches, weight gain, bleeding, mood swings! I wouldn’t ever touch any of them again - we still want kids in future so condoms for now and then he gets vasectomy.
