Every day. Every single day, I have a friend who texts me saying
“Hey what are you up to”
I know I’m being ridiculous but after months of lockdown I’m finding it increasingly hard to just reply “oh not much how’s things” and not “NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE 2747278th DAY IN A ROW PLEASE STOP ASKING.”

But also they only send that any maybe one or two other messages they never call for a proper conversation even on text?
It’s definitely me having gone cranky in lockdown but it’s really irritating me would I be really unreasonable to ask them to stop or occasionally not reply.

Text them first with the same question?

Have you asked them how they're doing? How they're holding up with lockdown/Covid? Sounds like they may be trying to reach out because they're struggling and want support

Why do you reply? Seriously? I don't understand. I'd reply twice at most and then never again. What a waste of time!

Either don't reply or ask how they're doing - it might be that they need a friendly voice in the day, or it might be that they're bored!

As I said in my OP in reply every time with something a long the lines of “not much how’s things/how are you” etc etc usually get a text in reply “oh same old” and that’s it. I assume they are bored but I find it irrationally infuriating.
