New TV is crap - so disappointed

We bought a new TV from Currys on Sunday. Not cheap for us - it cost £600. They talked us into getting a different one to the one we intended to buy with a better picture.
Got it home and it home and it’s so disappointing.
It’s ok if watching something modern filmed in HD but of watching anything older than a few years the picture jumps and judders and the sound is out of sync. It’s like the supeR modern Processor can’t process the older image.
Taking it back tomorrow.
Will they exchange it?
We’ve had it out of the box and used it and it’s not faulty as such. Just rubbish!

They've no choice but to accept it back if withing a certain time.

Is it a much bigger screen? If so everything not hd will look shit, nothing will change that.

If the majority of content you watch is old standard definition then it's pretty pointless getting a larger tv, it will just amplify a crap picture.

First though Google best picture settings for your model.

It'll likely direct you to rtings, follow the recommended settings, you don't have to understand it all just follow what it says.

If it still looks shit give it back.

It annoys me when sales people persistently try to talk you out of the model you've set your mind on. I don't mind them offering to show other models, but generally when I buy an appliance or piece of tech I have already researched it and know exactly what I want.

My theory is that they're trying to shift the less popular items.

Hope they let you return it without hassle, OP. If the picture is juddering that sounds like a fault.

Definitely check your settings first. When we got a new telly it was making me feel sick! But then we adjusted settings and it was ok. Google to see if it’s common on your model.

We had this problem with our newest tv. It’s a Toshiba. There’s a setting on it called direct motion something that’s supposed to be great when you’re playing games but it makes everything odd and off kilter if you’re just watching Pointless or something.

Definitely Google and see if it’s a similar issue because it’s very easily solvable. If not take it back. You’re well within your rights to.

Try turning off all features that are supposed to enhance the picture. They generally do more harm than good. Also, although this is secondary, use the "cinema" or similar named setting to get the best brightness and contrast settings.
