Daughter thinks that the vulnerable and elderly will have to shield until April and life will resume as normal for everyone else. As in, no masks, no social distancing etc. Aibu to tell her she is wrong?

YABU to tell her that she’s right or wrong.
None of us know.

Is it a sensible precaution for the vulnerable to shield during the expected risky winter season if they can? Yes.
Is it possible that by next spring things will be more normal? Yes.

It’s a bit pointless trying to be in the right here 🤷🏻‍♀️

PinkAndFabulous · 09/10/2020 17:29

I meant life will resume as normal as from next week for the healthy.
My daughter thinks if the elderly/vulnerable are told to shield from Monday, this then means no masks/no SD will also resume from Monday.

What your DD suggests is not govt policy & not supported by majority of population. So I doubt very much it will happen.

Right, sorry - I read that as what will then happen in April. No SD and masks from next week’s announcement? 🤣 Your daughter is either a bit young or a bit dim! So I change to YANBU!

Seems highly unlikely.

LadyCatStark · 09/10/2020 17:34

If that was going to happen it would have been leaked by now!

joell75 · 09/10/2020 17:37

But people die from the virus despite not being previously considered vulnerable. Why would we do away with measures to protect each other when, in that respect, it's something of a lottery?

WrongKindOfFace · 09/10/2020 17:51

Shielding might happen but it’s unlikely that all other measures will be dropped.

BeaverTail · 09/10/2020 17:54

I voted YANBU when I thought your daughter meant that life would be back to normal by April. Monday? Crazy talk.

How old is your daughter?

pigsDOfly · 09/10/2020 18:07

Have I missed something major? How could that possibly happen?

Does your daughter really think that all those hot spots in the country will suddenly magically be fine and everyone will be able to resume normal life if all the old and vulnerable disappear off the streets?

How old is she?

mbosnz · 09/10/2020 18:10

I admire your daughter's optimism. I think it's most probably entirely unwarranted, but still, to still retain that, after the year that 2020 has been. . .

HollowTalk · 09/10/2020 18:11

Tell her to read a good newspaper instead of getting her news from social media!

ivfbeenbusy · 09/10/2020 18:21

To be honest it's the policy we should have adopted from the start. We locked the young people (18-24 year olds) down for months to prevent mass infections etc and destroyed our economy (for which the elderly will have no part in paying for) and now the young are being infected in their 1000s - hospital rates aren't increasing in relation to infections and whole swathes of the economy is still open for business compared to the strict closures we saw in March 🤷‍♀️
