To consider hypnotherapy

I have suffered with anxiety issues for a long time. I have a very specific 'fear' that leads to anxious episodes and has really begun to control my life. I've tried CBT twice with limited success and am now considering other therapies.

I wonder if anyone has had any success with hypnotherapy? I really don't know whether it's something I 'believe' in and as it's pretty expensive for private sessions I'm just wondering if it's worth it. I really need to train my mind out of this stupid fear and the habits I've gotten into. Would be interested to hear others experience :)

I have really bad anxiety and a vomiting phobia. I’ve seen three hypnotherapists over the years but unfortunately it hasn’t helped at all

@Dita73 thank you, my phobia is around bodily functions too. So that's useful to know. I have a fear of needing the toilet and not being able to find one and over time the anxiety has actually led to me needing to use the toilet more and more which really restricts where I can go now.

I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't worked for you. I just don't know what to try next. My CBT sessions really haven't helped.

It's really variable depending on each person. Would be worth trying a session and seeing if it helped before committing. It can work amazingly well for some people and not at all for others.

Not me (although I'm considering it for anxiety related issue too), but my mum. She has severe agoraphobia, and I mean she's near house bound. She had hypnotherapy a few times, it didn't work miracles but she can venture a little bit further without reaching for Valium now.
My friend had been a smoker for 20+ years and used hypnotherapy to completely quit smoking and hating cigarettes after failing miserably to quit a bunch of times before with patches etc, I've always thought it was a bit of a placebo effect, but it worked 🤷🏻‍♀️
I'm considering myself, like I say, but I am sceptical.

I had it for anxiety and it didn't work

I use paul mckennas hypnosis things on youtube and find them amazing

I had it for a needle phobia and it worked to certain extent. I am still scared but have been given coping methods for having blood tests etc. I am not sure I believed in it before but it is worth a go if nothing else is working.

I had CBT several years ago when I was in a bad place. It was useless!
With hindsight, I would have preferred hypnotherapy.
