I’ve been applying constantly for months now. Not even 1 bloody interview. Half the time I don’t even hear back, which just makes the 1.5 hours of applying seem pointless. I’ve had my CV and covering letters checked by 2 different HR professionals who both said they were excellent and just to keep at it, it’s competitive atm blah blah. I’m wondering if it’s my age as I’m early 30’s and they probably all think I’m going to pop out 5 kids in the near future!

Not really looking for advice as I’m doing all I can really, it’s more just needing to vent and commiserate with others in the same boat so I don’t feel like the only one! WineCake

Have you tried recruitment agents? What jobs are you after?

Vikinglightning · 07/10/2020 13:39

Yes, tried recruitment agencies, almost had luck with 1 of them today...they wanted to send me for an interview, great, I asked what the company did, they told me. I know where the job is located and so knew it had to be for a previous employer of mine who I worked for in 2009. My god it was awful, awful bullying and blame culture. I was straight out of uni and young so didn’t know better. It was the most unethical place I’ve ever had the displeasure of working in, people crying and having nervous breakdowns at their desks, people going into the manager’s office, coming straight out after being dismissed without any warning and being paid off to keep schtum. You name it, it went on. I was vague but effectively told her the truth and said I won’t be attending the interview.

So that made me depressed as I got all excited!! Applying mainly for project coordinator/ support and admin roles!

Are you tailoring for every role?

Im just starting to apply for jobs after 2 years as a sahm. My hubby thinks it will be better for my mental health to work part time. I've applied for around 20 jobs so far and heard nothing back.

BusyBB · 07/10/2020 13:45

I dont think it's to do with your age, I think companies blank out that info when looking at applications so they dont discriminate.

Unfortunately loads more people are looking for jobs at the moment due to covid.... there are jobs available but it just depends what you are willing to do.

I've applied for mainly Civil Service jobs since moving back to UK last year. I've applied for 8 jobs, 2 I've yet to hear back from (recent applications), had 3 rejections, 3 interviews and I've got a job.
