Looking for somewhere special to take OH for a couple of nights, we’re big foodies and happy to travel anywhere in the U.K. Where have you been and loved?

OP posts:

Sheer have you been and liked already? Done The Pigs?

teardropsonthecity · 06/10/2020 23:06

Knowledge is limited to the North, but...

Black Swan at Oldstead
Inn at Whitewell in Lancashire
Punch Bowl, Crosthwaite
Drunken Duck, Hawkshead

Did love the Wild Rabbit at Kingham, though.

LakieLady · 06/10/2020 23:16

The Scott Arms at Kingston in Dorset.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2020 23:18

Tan Hill Inn
(Highest pub in England. If you’re old enough to remember 80s advertising, it was the “Everest” pub).

squashyhat · 06/10/2020 23:21

Angel and Blue Pig, Lymington Hants.

jakeyboy1 · 06/10/2020 23:23

The White Hart, Moreton-in-Marsh, Cotswolds.

Also down the road Wyck Hill House at Stow is on offer at present. I've heard rooms are variable and haven't stayed there but it is pretty foodie.

Gidleigh park in Chagford

Loved The Gallivant, near Rye/Camber. As a bonus, you’re right next the quiet end of Camber Sands.

Calic0 · 06/10/2020 23:40

Second Black Swan at Oldstead. Lovely. Not really a pub though. Another Yorkshire one would be The Star Inn at Harome. Some great places in the Lakes as well - L’Enclume is fab, or Gilpin Lodge.

For sheer luxury you can’t beat Le Manoir - but, again, not really pubby and you might need to sell a kidney!!

weegiemum · 06/10/2020 23:53

Further afield- The Peat Inn in Fife, or the Three Chimneys in Skye. Both amazing!

Davros · 07/10/2020 00:18

Watch the first series of The Trip, lots of lovely places

coronafiona · 07/10/2020 00:28

Ludlow has some lovely places

seayork2020 · 07/10/2020 01:12

The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge (Moors)

PercyKirke · 07/10/2020 01:15

Pen-y-Dyfren at Rhydecroseau near Oswestry.

Serenity2020 · 07/10/2020 04:58

Another vote for Ludlow here.

HelloViroids · 07/10/2020 05:07

I was also coming to suggest the Pigs.

garlictwist · 07/10/2020 05:10

The Tan Hill inn is not a gastropub. Just a regular pub.

Theterrible42s · 07/10/2020 05:25

Second the Star in in Harome. The Tan Hill is in an amazing place but they food isn't anything.

Theterrible42s · 07/10/2020 05:26

Neither is the Lion Inn, it's just another high up pub!

FecktheBoss · 07/10/2020 05:32

Inn at Whitehall - lovely place and setting

FecktheBoss · 07/10/2020 05:33

Whitewell not whitehall

lurkingattheback · 07/10/2020 05:41

Another for the Black Swan at Oldstead (Tommy Banks). We've been twice, had a lovely day in York, then checked in, had the taster menu and breakfast. Very relaxed, chilled out place. Rooms are in the same village just across from the pub.

AuntieMarys · 07/10/2020 05:44

The Angel at Hetton
Ynishir in Powys

Flossingisforteeth · 07/10/2020 05:48

Another recommendation for the Pigs! The Pig on the Beach is just lovely
