I’m mid 50s, I’m fit and I’m not overweight (or underweight) and I always ache. It’s deeply annoying. I’m peri menopausal and I think that might have something to do It. I also wonder if I’ve got some sort of arthritis.
My knees and elbows ache a lot at the moment but sometimes my hips too.

I cut out high impact exercise and now do swimming, biking, walking and tennis. I
I’m thinking of having some blood tests to see if I’m short of any vitamins.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2020 01:11

I'm 59 and wouldn't say I ached in general. I walk a lot and do Pilates, so sometimes I have specific aches but they're the 'good' exercise type of ache.

Valkadin · 07/10/2020 01:50

I ached a lot when going through the menopause. My osteopath said it happens a lot to women with hormonal changes. I actually have a scoliosis of the spine so that can trouble me but post menopausal now and all those aches have gone.

dingledongle · 10/10/2020 08:18

Currently achy, hips, thighs and legs. Only in the morning Wink

After reading this I am going to get Vit D levels checked Grin

lljkk · 10/10/2020 08:24

53, not overweight & never ache. I sometimes have sore muscles from running or swimming but barely notice, no worse than when I was 20 & had exercised hard.

I have RSI & 'issues' with every bit of my body (like patellar tendonitis) but most of that is since my 20s too, or younger, and not constant, just flares up sometimes. I think the only new thing in last 5 years is plantar fascititis which isn't an issue lately, only if I don't take a break from running in summer.

Truthlikeness · 10/10/2020 09:41

I'm mid forties, slightly overweight and nothing currently aches unless I've done extreme activity (like a 90 minute football game). I've had various specific issues over the years - usually sport injuries - but they've all been resolved through physio.

JayeAshe · 10/10/2020 09:48

I had an achy hip until I started with Couch to 5k on my 58th birthday, the ache went away but, some years later, returns at night if I lie too long on one side. Otherwise, no aches.

Jeremyironseverything · 10/10/2020 10:06

I don't ache but I am a bit stiff when I get up sometimes, especially if I've been sitting in one position for a while.

HamishDent · 10/10/2020 10:12

I ached a lot but was overweight and unfit. Since losing weight and starting to exercise I feel a lot better. I also started HRT which has helped hugely.

Meruem · 10/10/2020 10:18

Something I’ve found that really helps is sleeping with a pillow between my legs (I sleep on my side). Apparently it’s something to do with spine alignment and you can get specific pillows for it, though I just use an ordinary one. I was waking up so achy before I started doing that.

somewheresorted · 10/10/2020 10:25

Definitely worth getting some blood tests done. I’m 48, fit, exercise daily and eat well but started to get very achy with sore joints which I put it all down to age and being peri- menopausal. Turns out it was an autoimmune disease.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/10/2020 10:26

Im aching now, after 3 night shifts and only 9 hours sleep in 2 days.

smellycats · 10/10/2020 12:13

I used to ache. It would wake me in the night, and I'd have to get out of bed early because my back would be so sore. But I've incorporated stretching into my exercise and it's changed everything. No aches at all anymore.

lazylinguist · 10/10/2020 12:15

I'm 49, not particularly fit and don't ache.

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2020 12:16

I ache a lot lately. Mid 50s.
I should do more exercise and try to lose a bit. Not on HRT.

Chanjer · 10/10/2020 12:27

Are they aches that are related to a specific activity?

Started riding a different kind of bike recently and had different aches to normal bike related aches

I climb frequently and most aches can be traced to specific injuries

At some point in my mid 30s I lost the ability to sleep on a hard surface without waking up feeling like I'd been run over

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 10/10/2020 12:29

I don't ache at all.

Have defintely gained a lockdown banana bread & wine not together
tum but do yoga and walk around 20,000 steps a day.

I don't think you should just be achey all the time-maybe try yoga?

Is it random unconnected aches or is there something that needs seeing to?

ghostyslovesheets · 10/10/2020 12:38

I get the odd twinge in my knee now and then and I ache after a heavy boxing session (my poor arms!) but generally no - I am 50 a bit fat but very active

The only ache I get is in my right hip and related muscle when riding - I think it's just tight though - I have to ride out the stirrup for a bit to relax it

lurkingfromhome · 10/10/2020 12:42

52 and no aches at all unless they're specific post-exercise things or running niggles. I don''t have any random pains and nothing hurts in the morning when I get up. I do a lot of Pilates, though, which I think helps prevent backache and that kind of thing.

Florencex · 10/10/2020 12:43

I am fifty and unfit, I have no particular aches.

justjuggling · 10/10/2020 14:18

I’m 47 and I ache!! Hips, back, neck. Especially bad after a day sat at my dining room table looking at my laptop.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 10/10/2020 14:23

I'm 57, I'm a bit stiff when I first get up in the mornings, but fine after that. I do exercise quite a bit though.

crackofdoom · 10/10/2020 14:28

Achy is not my normal state, but I'm on HRT. Recently my lower back had been getting a bit achy, but I realised I hadn't gone to a yoga class for 6 months, and a couple of online classes really sorted me out. Today, however, I am achy because I had my first climbing lesson yesterday (I was shit at it). Normal weight, 46.

VinylDetective · 10/10/2020 14:33

I started aching when I was just over 60. My mum used to talk about her “aches and pains” and I didn’t know what she was talking about. I do now.

steppemum · 10/10/2020 14:43

wow I can't believe this thread.

I have just been moaning to dh that I am always achy and tired, but for no reason.
I walk the dog for 1.5 hours outside, so I had assumed I couldn't be viatmin D deficient. But this might by it!
I will start taking supplements and see what happens
